Sentence patterns and the communicative functions(句型及其交际功能): (1) Learn and practice the sentence patterns (He is studying in the United States/He is living with an American family in New York/His mom and aunt are making zongzi/His dad and uncle are watching the boat races on TV./The mother is reading a story to her young children./The father is watching a soccer game on TV./He is talking on the phone to his cousin in Shenzhen.) through reading about what Zhu Huis family members are doing and what Zhu Huis host family members are doing on Dragon Boat Festival.3. Language skills and strategies(语言技能和策略): (1) Make predictions about the possible contents according to the pictures. (2) Scan for the history and custom of Dragon Boat Festival.(3) Scan for the information about : What are Zhu Huis family members doing at 9:00 am on Dragon Boat Festival? What are Zhu Huis host family members doing at 9:00 pm in New York? (4) Talk about the history and custom of special days in China.4. Cultural understanding and learning strategies(文化理解和学习策略):(1) Be aware that special days have special meaning and people observe special custom for the days. (2) Love our family and be good with others.Teaching procedures:Stage1: Revision and Lead-inStep1: Greeting as usualStep2: T gets Ss to read numbers and gets them to think about the usage of number(count/time/date)Step3: T shows Ss some pictures about clock and gets them to read the time of the clock.Step4: T gets Ss to read the date by asking a question(Whats the date today?)(April 14th,2017/May 30th,2017)Stage2: Pre-readingStep1: T shows some pictures about Dragon Boat festival and gets them to talk about the customs of the Dragon Boat Festival by asking questions(make zongzi/eat zongzi/have boat races/show respect to Qu Yuan/drink realgar wine)Step2: T introduces the topic of todays lesson( We are going to read a TV report today, and its also about the Dragon Boat Festival)Stage 3: While-reading(Scan for the gist/Scan for the details)Step1: T asks Ss to read the TV report for the first time and gets them to asks some questions(Who is Zhu Hui?/ Where is he now? What does he think about his home in China?)and gets them to know the meaning of the passage (We should love our family/East or West, home is best. )Stage 4: Post-readingStep1: T gets Ss to recite the passage by filling in the blanks Zhu Hui is a student from Shenzhen. He is studying in the US. And he is living with an American family in New York. Zhu Huis family are at home on Dragon Boat Festival. His mom and aunt are making food. His Dad and uncle are watching the boat races. But its like any other night in the US. The mother of his host family is reading a story. The father is watching a soccer game on TV. And Zhu Hui is talking on the phone to his cousin. Zhu Hui likes New York and his host family a lot, but theres still “no place like home”.Step2: Match the verbs in column A with the words in column B.(2c)Stage5
