Nine Top Tiecha Mountain Jiudingtiechashan By Jingyujuan Nine Top Tiecha Mountain an extension of the Changbai Mountains is located 40 kilometers to the east of Benxi City It is 36 kilometers away from Benxi Water Cave Its main peak is 912 9 meters above sea level Tiecha Mountain has endless views almost every person who has toured this mountain exclaims The Mountain is made up of five peaks one in the middle and four other ones surrounding it in different directions namely the east the south the west and the north The central peak is called Yuanshi Peak It is the highest the most beautiful and also the most dangerous to climb The other four are called respectively Yuhuang Peak Jade Emperor Peak Lingbao Peak Magic Treasure Peak Taishang Peak and Zhenwu Peak True Martial Art Peak Looking up from the north the south or the east you can see three of the five peaks Three times three is nine So Taoists gave the mountain its name Nine Top Tiecha Mountain As a prominent mountain in Northeast China not only is Tiecha Mountain home to thick ancient forests where sky scraping trees are common it is also the very place where the Northeast Taoism originated The mountain s supernatural allure inscriptions in cliffs caves with their legends and ancient Taoists treasures together with fantastic rocks and peaks drags tourists over in droves especially on holidays One legend says that the Llong eye browed Immortal Li who lived in Shang Dynasty about early 17th century B C to 11th century B C and Zhou Dynasty about 11th century B C to 256 B C first started preaching Taoism here and it was right here that he was elevated to immortal Tiecha Mountain is in fact the birthplace of Northeast Taoism which began to thrive when in the 17th century Guo Shouzhen the 8th generation master of Longmen Taoism came to preach on this mountain It was Guo s followers who built and supported taoist temples like Qinghua Temple in Jilin Province Ciyun Temple in Heilongjiang Province and Wuliang Temple in Qianshan Liaoning Province Up to now Northeast Taoism has been passed on to its 25th generation master The mountain was written into such ancient novels as Fengshen List China Benxi Water Cave By Jiangyujuan Benxi Water Cave is 3 kilometers west of Xiaoshi the capital of Benxi County As the biggest water cave in China it is known for uniquely fasinating stalactites and deep running water in the cave The cave is inside an extension of Qianshan Mountains The entrance which is 28 meters wide and 20 meters high faces south and looks like a half moon In front of the entrance is one of the famous rivers in Liaoning Province Taizi River The cave winds its way deep into the mountain like a dragon The inside of the cave is 5 to 50 meters wide and 5 to 38 meters high The developed part of the water cave is 2850 meters long and covers an area of 36 thousand square meters The river inside the cave averages 2 5 meters deep The greatest depth is 7 meters It never freezes for the temperature in the cave is around 10 degrees C all the year round Nature is still going on with its creation of stalactites as it has done for millions of years The views inside the cave are divided into 72 groups such as Three Caves Three Gorges Two Gates and Seven Palaces Actually Benxi Water Cave is the longest water cave in the world that one can explore and appreciate by boat In 1987 it was added to the list of well known sights in Liaoning Province In 1994 it was put on the list of the most famous sights in China Guanmen Mountain By Jiangyujuan Guanmen Mountain National Forest Park one of the AAAA scenic areas in China is 70 kilometers southeast of Benxi City It covers 3517 acres 95 percent of which is forest where unique trees grow and ancient trees are many Plantation within the park is well preserved and the scenery here is even more beautiful because of Guanmen Reservoir as well as fantastic steep peaks that have ever green pine trees growing on them It is a very good place for sight seeing for holidays and for escape from hot summers One of the many poems about Guanmen Mountain reads Winding above the cloud is Guanmen Mountain Where on cold odd cliffs grow mighty pine trees Out of thin mist a thousand peaks rise There on earth appears another paradise Something particularly special about Guanmen Mountain is the red maple tree leaves in autumn when the place is swamped with tourists who scramble here and there They desire to have a close look at the red leaves so as to not only see them with eyes but also feel them by hand and by home the moment you step in Big Stone Lake Dashihu By Jiangyujuan The Big Stone Lake one of the sources of Taizi River Prince River lies in a deep valley 2 5 kilometers southwest of Lanheyu Manzhu Autonomous County of Benxi It is 50 kilometers away from Xiaoshi the capital of the county The lake is given its name because the valley features big stones and steep cliffs Its prime attraction is a chain of waterfalls called Wuhusipu Five Lakes and Four Waterfalls one waterfall following another and pouring into five ponds of different sizes The first lake or pond as it is also called is named Tianchi Lake Tianchi means Lake of Heaven It is around 180 square meters in area A river runs out of the mountains and falls sharply down 4 to 5 meters forming the first waterfall casting about cool water drops and roaring like thunders The pond below is in dark color for its great depth As it is the first and also the highest of the five sister lakes it is called Tianchi Lake Having fallen its first fall and filled Tianchi Lake the river goes on to fall another 2 or 3 meters into another pond bringing into existence the second waterfall and the second lake In the same way the rest waterfalls and lakes are created Turning around at the first pond you can see all the other ponds The second pond is the most impressing not only because of the fast speed and dark color of its water but also because of its unknown depth It is said that there is a deep hole under the pond through which the water joins an underground river that finally runs into Yalu Rriver in Dandong The third lake is called Chenyetan the Pond where Leaves Sink because leaves do not float on it They sink instead Of course the water runs slower here than in the first pond In the cliff on the east side of the fourth lake there is a natural cave whose height allows a man to stand up in it But few people go there because one has to cross the ice cold river to do it and no bridge is around yet Running out of the fourth pond down sloping rocks the river becomes the fifth waterfall and falls into the last pond As the Big Stone Lake is between cliffs you can watch it either from above on a cliff or from below at the fifth pond The latter way will fill you with awe for the great beauty and power of nature while the former may do one other thing too it may fill you with fear fear of falling Certainly if you do not suffer from phobia the case is different The mountains surrounding the Big Stone Lake are very beautiful In spring flowers bloom and the lakes reflect a riot of colors In summer trees dye the water green When late autumn comes maple trees turn as red as fire so do the ponds In winter mountains are white and the lakes are frozen Seen from afar they look like ice dragons When ice melts in spring they turn into water dragons again The Big Stone Lake is fantastic Its surrounding mountains are high and are covered with dense ancient forests which are home to many kinds of wild it because it is a genuine wonderland Hot Sprig Valley By Jiangyujuan Hot Spring Valley scenic area is an AAAA national forest park It is in Chaohezhang Benxi County Just close by is another famous scenic area Guamnen Mountain Hot Spring Valley Forest Park covers an area of 2167 acres 90 percent of which is forest Plantation there is well preserved The picturesque secenery consist of Green Stone Valley Monk s Hat Five Lady Peak and Hot Spring Development Area etc Apart from the natural features similar to those of Guanmen Mountain Hot Spring Valley is best known for its hot springs The hot spring water which contains 18 minerals and is as hot as 70 degrees C has a good effect on many diseases like skin diseases rheumatism and arthritis In fact it has better quality and effect than its counterparts in other places in China Other things that can t be skipped are Yang Jingyu Memorial Monument to Song Tie Yan and Monument to the meeting held by leaders of Anti Japanese Allied Army before it went on its march westward Yang was the general of that army and Song was an officer of lower rank Both men died heroic deaths during the Anti Japanese war In Hot Spring Valley there are quite a few good hotels One or two of them have indoor swimming pools In summer tourists can also swim in an outdoor swimming pool which is indeed very big Of course all swimming pools are filled with Sandaohe Reservoir The Sandaohe Reservoir locates at Gaoguan Town of Benxi Man Autonomous County It is 50 kilometers apart from the county seat and it was completed at 1972 The Reservoir can store up water 28 000 000 steres and it can generates electricity 1 000 000 kilowatt hour a year It is a medium sized reservoir which can supply water generate electricity prevent or control flood and provide travel The Sandaohe Reservoir keeps the fishing development prosperous It can feed 15 kinds of fishes in net boxes and the surface of the water which contains chub carp etc The scenery of the reservoir is very beautiful You can see the wide blue great waves lots of sea gulls and great hills and blue waters in Sandaohe Reservoir The facilities for travel is well found When summer comes also called Qinghe Fortress The soldier city ruins of the Ming Dynasty in Qinghe City locates at Benxi Man Autonomous County 35kilometers apart from the county seat It is the fortress for military affairs of Liaodong in Ming Dynasty and it has 500 years history The Qinghe Fortress City was established by the vice commander Hanbin of Liaoyang in the 4th year of Chenghua in Ming Dynasty The shape of The Qinghe Fortress City is square The perimeter of it is 500 meters The rampart is 6 meters high and 3meters wide and composed of granites and bricks The inside of the rampart is empty and people built the war signal sets in the four corners of the rampart and built a gate in every direction of east south west and north Today only the southern foundation stones are in good condition and the rest are ridgy cob walls The Qinghe City is the fortress for military affairs of Liaodong in Ming Dynasty The 39th year of Jiajing it was transferred to be the fielding and it ruled sixty six emplacements and seven villages such as Alkali factory the Isolated Mountain Dongzhou etc There were 4500 officers and soldiers garrisoned And it was built a frontier wall which was 100 meters long It set up markets for trading horses and Manchu markets for trading horses In 1618 Nuerhachi led Manchu troops to attack Qinghe City the guarded vice commander Zou Chuxian led 10 000 solders guarded the city stiffly The Manchu troops made a hole in the rampart and the city was lost and Zou Chuxian was killed The Qinghe City was lost so the whole Liao was disordered In 1619 Yanggao led four roads troops to attack the Manchu troops The commander in chief Li Rubai served as the skipper in right road led 60 000 solders to attacked enemy but they didn t fight against each other and the Ming troops withdrew In 1905 during the Janpan and Russia war period the commander in chief Da Shanyan anabasised Fushun from the Qinghe City in order to hold down the Russian troops The frequent wars in the history of Qinghe City made the people there in an abyss of suffering The people came into power of the Qinghe City and the Qinghe City turned on a new look after the liberation 500 years has passed the Qinghe City was weather beaten but you could still recognize parts of the rampart It is the witness of the history change and is also the important inheritance of the ancient culture In 1961 the
