I just couldnt imagine why she had made her parents so angry. It seemed that Katie had been running up sizable charges in the lunchroom. Her parents explained that Katie brought a great homemade lunch each day, and there was no reason for her to buy school lunch. They assumed a sitdown with Katie would solve the problem, but failed. So they asked me to help them get to the bottom of this situation. So the next day, I asked Katie to my office.“Why are you charging lunches, Katie? What happened to your homemade lunch?” I asked. “I lose it,” she responded. I leaned back in my chair and said, “I dont believe you, Katie.” She didnt care.“Is someone stealing your lunch, Katie?” I took a new track. “No.I just lose it,” she said.Well, there was nothing else I could do.The problem was still unsolved the next week when I noticed a boy who was new to the school sitting alone at a lunch table. He always looked sad.I thought I would go and sit with him for a while. As I walked towards him, I noticed the lunch bag on the table. The name on the bag said “ Katie ” .Now I understood and I talked to Katie. It seemed that the new boy never brought a lunch, and he wouldnt go to the lunch line for a free lunch. He had told Katie his secret and asked her not to tell anyone that his parents wanted him to get a free lunch at school. When the technology becomes commercially available, it could help lead-footed drivers avoid tickets and also save lives. The company that developed the product hopes to convince Australian government agencies to put the technology into use in their automobile fleets. The product, called Speed Alert, links real-time location data and speed obtained with the help of GPS to a database of posted speed limits stored in a drivers PDA or programmable mobile phone. The setup of the product does not need to be hooked up to a cars speedometer. In fact, it is entirely portable. It will also work with newer phones and PDAs that have built-in GPS receivers. If a driver exceeds the speed limit, the speed is shown and an alert sounds.Michael Paine, an Australian vehicle design engineer and traffic safety consultant, was hired to analyze the product. He told Live Science that his colleagues in the road safety field are “very enthusiastic” about what theyre now calling “intelligent speed alert.” Other research, according to Paine, shows that 40 percent of all traffic deaths involve speeding. There is also a potentially controversial future use: “Since the system is so portable, it would be easy to make it a requirement for teenage drivers to always use a speed alert device when driving,” Paine said. “The system even has the capability to record speeding violations, so parents can monitor their teenage drivers.”The product will soon go on sale in Sydney.48. Whats the purpose of the new product?A. To inform us of the new car system. B. To introduce some improvement in cars.C. To limit certain drivers to safe driving. D. To popularize the built-in car system.49. The second paragraph mainly talks about .A. the project of the built-in product B. why the system becomes popularC. the functions of GPS in cars D. how the product is programmed50. The system will excite some teenage drivers. D. The product will not be available for adults.51. What can be the best title of the passage?A. Speed Alert and Its Future Use.B. The wigwams were of wagon-top shape with straight sides and ends, made by bending young trees to form the round shape. Over this shape pieces of tree bark were laid to protect the Indians from bad weather. Over the bark dried grass was added. A small hole allowed smoke to escape from the top. Doorways at each end served also as windows, The Iroquois Indians built trunk walls all around their villages. The wall had only one opening, They could quickly close this opening if their enemies came near.Interestingly, the Choctaw Indians in Mississippi also lived in a wigwam of a most primitive(原始的) construction, but different from those of the Iroquois Indians. The Choctaw Indians wigwams, made from mud, cane and straw, were in the form of a bee-hive. The covering was made of a long, tough grass. A post in the centre supported the roof. A hole in the top admitted the light, and allowed the smoke to pass out.The tipi tent-housing of the upper lake and plains area was put up with poles set lightly in the ground, tied together near the top, and covered with bark and grass in the lake country. It was easily portable, and two women could set it up or take it down within an hour. The Pawnee, Mandan and other Indian tribes (部落) along the Missouri built solid ring-shaped structures of trunk, covered with earth and dried grass, housing a dozen families. The Wichita and other tribes of the Texas border built large ring-shaped houses covered with dried grass. Apart from the regular housing, almost every tribe had some style of housing.( ) 1.Which of the following pictures shows the house for the Iroquois Indians?( ) 2. Accord
