共 2424 分分 17 8 分 阅读理解 Technology is everywhere We see it any place we go and in fact almost all of us carry some piece of technology with us every time we leave the house What I always forget though is just how useful and powerful technology can be when we want to help others There is not a single room in my house that does not have some electronic devices 设备 lying around in it Whenever I am at home I am almost always using at least one electronic device If you walked into my living room on any given day you would find that first I have the television on At the same time I usually have my laptop resting on my knee or I will be using my mobile phone Even when I m not at home I am always using my phone and at work or in caf s I sit down and connect to the local wireless network on my laptop I must say that I waste a lot of time on the computer and the time I spend on it could be much better spent if I were to take up a little online volunteering The technology we carry about everywhere can have a great power to do good for the world and to help others and recently I discovered just how much online volunteering there is to do in the world From using your language skills to do translations to developing and managing projects and helping with IT work there is so much that so many people can do to help people in their own countries and across the world The United Nations in fact has a huge page with Volunteers Recruited on its website This work can support the poor and help charities who cannot pay for staff members Many organizations only require you to work an hour a week some even less And the support provided by online volunteers can really help make a difference to those in need 1 From Paragraph 2 we can know that the writer 第 10 页 共 17 页 A is a computer engineer B works in a caf C uses technology a lot D likes modern music 2 The underlined word Recruited in Paragraph 4 means A Ordered B Visited C Wanted D Warned 3 In the writer s opinion people should spend more time with technology A working on computer programs B keeping the Internet safe C inventing electronic products D helping people in need 4 What can be the best title for the passage A Online Volunteering B Internet Organizations C Website Design D Online Translation 18 10 分 根据短文理解 选择正确答案 Almost everyone has dropped some food on the floor and still wanted to eat it If someone saw you drop it he or she might have shouted 5 second rule This so called rule says food is OK to eat if you pick it up in five seconds or less But is that true 第 11 页 共 17 页 Professor Anthony Hilton from Ashton University UK tested the rule with his students They found that food dropped for five seconds is less likely to contain bacteria 细菌 than if it sits there for longer For the study Hilton and his students tested a lot of foods bread pasta cookies and candy to see how much bacteria they had when they made contact with the floor They allowed the food to lie on the different types of flooring carpet 地毯 laminate 复合地板 and tile 瓷砖 for three seconds to 30 seconds Not surprisingly the longer the food was on the floor the more bacteria it had And the type of floor where the dropped food landed had an effect Bacteria are least likely to transfer 转移 from carpet while they are most likely to transfer laminate or tiled surface after more than five seconds The study also found that the wetter the food the more likely it was to pick up bacteria Although most people are happy to follow the 5 second rule eating food dropped on the floor still carries an infection 感染 risk It very much depends on which bacteria are on the floor at the time Hilton told Forbes 1 What is the 5 second rule mean A People often shout at someone when they drop food on the floor B Food is safe when you pick it up
