迈克尔杰克逊牛津英语励志演讲稿HealtheChildren,HealtheWorld拯救儿童，拯救世界流行音乐之王迈克尔杰克逊Inaworld?lledwithhate,wemuststilldaretohope.Keephopealive.Inaworld?lledwithanger,wemuststilldaretocomfort.Inaworld?lledwithdespair,wemuststilldaretodream.Andinaworld?lledwithdistrust,wemuststilldaretobelieve.即使世界充满仇恨，我们也要勇于憧憬，让希望永存;即使世界充满愤怒，我们也要敢于安慰;即使世界充满绝望，我们也要勇于梦想;即使世界充满猜疑，我们仍然敢于信任。-HealTheKidsOxfordSpeechOxfordUniversity,March2019byMichaelJacksonThankyou,thankyoudearfriends,fromthebottomofmyheart,forsuchalovingandspiritedwelcome,andthankyou,MrPresident,foryourkindinvitationtomewhichIamsohonoredtoaccept.IalsowanttoexpressaspecialthankstoyouShmuley,whofor11yearsservedasRabbihereatOxford.YouandIhavebeenworkingsohardtoformHealtheKids,aswellaswritingourbookaboutchildlikequalities,andinallofoureffortsyouhavebeensuchasupportiveandlovingfriend.AndIwouldalsoliketothankTobaFriedman,ourdirectorofoperationsatHealtheKids,whoisreturningtonighttothealmamaterwheresheservedasaMarshallscholar,aswellasMarilynPiels,anothercentralmemberofourHealtheKidsteam.IamhumbledtobelecturinginaplacethathaspreviouslybeenfilledbysuchnotablefiguresasMotherTheresa,AlbertEinstein,RonaldReagan,RobertKennedyandMalcolmX.IveevenheardthatKermittheFroghasmadeanappearancehere,andIvealwaysfeltakinshipwithKermitsmessagethatitsnoteasybeinggreen.ImsurehedidntfinditanyeasierbeingupherethanIdo!AsIlookedaroundOxfordtoday,Icouldnthelpbutbeawareofthemajestyandgrandeurofthisgreatinstitution,nottomentionthebrillianceofthegreatandgiftedmindsthathaveroamedthesestreetsforcenturies.ThewallsofOxfordhavenotonlyhousedthegreatestphilosophicalandscientificgeniusestheyhavealsousheredforthsomeofthemostcherishedcreatorsofchildrensliterature,fromJ.R.R.TolkientoCSLewis.TodayIwasallowedtohobbleintothedininghallinChristChurchtoseeLewisCarrollsAliceinWonderlandimmortalizedinthestainedglasswindows.AndevenoneofmyownfellowAmericans,thebelovedDrSeussgracedthesehallsandthenwentontoleavehismarkontheimaginationsofmillionsofchildrenthroughouttheworld.IsupposeIshouldstartbylistingmyqualificationstospeakbeforeyouthisevening.Friends,Idonotclaimtohavetheacademicexpertiseofotherspeakerswhohaveaddressedthishall,justastheycouldlaylittleclaimatbeingadeptatthemoonwalkandyouknow,EinsteininparticularwasreallyTERRIBLEatthat.ButIdohaveaclaimtohavingexperiencedmoreplacesandculturesthanmostpeoplewilleversee.Humanknowledgeconsistsnotonlyoflibrariesofparchmentandinkitisalsocomprisedofthevolumesofknowledgethatarewrittenonthehumanheart,chiseledonthehumansoul,andengravedonthehumanpsyche.Andfriends,IhaveencounteredsomuchinthisrelativelyshortlifeofminethatIstillcannotbelieveIamchiseledonly42.IoftentellShmuleythatinsoulyearsImsurethatImatleast80andtonightIevenwalklikeIm80!Sopleaseharkentomymessage,becausewhatIhavetotellyoutonightcanbringhealingtohumanityandhealingtoourplanet.ThroughthegraceofGod,Ihavebeenfortunatetohaveachievedmanyofmyartisticandprofessionalaspirationsrealizedearlyinmylifetime.Butthese,friendsareaccomplishments,andaccomplishmentsalonearenotsynonymouswithwhoIam.Indeed,thecheeryfive-year-oldwhobeltedoutRockinRobinandBentoadoringcrowdswasnotindicativeoftheboybehindthesmile.Tonight,Icomebeforeyoulessasaniconofpop(whateverthatmeansanyway),andmoreasaniconofageneration,agenerationthatnolongerknowswhatitmeanstobechildren.Allofusareproductsofourchildhood.ButIamtheproductofalackofachildhood,anabsenceofthatpreciousandwondrousagewhenwefrolicplayfullywithoutacareintheworld,baskingintheadorationofparentsandrelatives,whereourbiggestconcernisstudyingforthatbigspellingtestcomeMondaymorning.ThoseofyouwhoarefamiliarwiththeJacksonFiveknowthatIbeganperformingatthetenderageoffiveandthateversincethen,Ihaventstoppeddancingorsinging.Butwhileperformingandmakingmusicundoubtedlyremainassomeofmygreatestjoys,whenIwasyoungIwantedmorethananythingelsetobeatypicallittleboy.Iwantedtobuildtreehouses,havewaterballoonfights,andplayhideandseekwithmyfriends.ButfatehaditotherwiseandallIcoulddowasenvythelaughterandplaytimethatseemedtobegoingonallaroundme.Therewasnorespitefrommyprofessionallife.ButonSundaysIwouldgoPioneering,thetermusedforthemissionaryworkthatJehovahsWitnessesdo.AnditwasthenthatIwasabletoseethemagicofotherpeopleschildhood.SinceIwasalreadyacelebrity,Iwouldhavetodonadisguiseoffatsuit,wig,beardandglassesandwewouldspendthedayinthesuburbsofSouthernCalifornia,goingdoor-to-doorormakingtheroundsofshoppingmalls,distributingourWatchtowermagazine.IlovedtosetfootinallthoseregularsuburbanhousesandcatchsightoftheshagrugsandLa-Z-BoyarmchairswithkidsplayingMonopolyandgrandmasbaby-sittingandallthosewonderful,ordinaryandstarryscenesofeverydaylife.Many,Iknow,wouldarguethatthesethingsseemlikenobigdeal.Buttometheyweremesmerizing.IusedtothinkthatIwasuniqueinfeelingthatIwaswithoutachildhood.IbelievedthatindeedtherewereonlyahandfulwithwhomIcouldsharethosefeelings.WhenIrecentlymetwithShirleyTempleBlack,thegreatchildstarofthe1930sand40s,wesaidnothingtoeachotheratfirst,wesimplycriedtogether,forshecouldshareapainwithmethatonlyotherslikemyclosefriendsElizabethTaylorandMcCauleyCulkinknow.Idonottellyouthistogainyoursympathybuttoimpressuponyoumyfirstimportantpoint:ItisnotjustHollywoodchildstarsthathavesufferedfromanon-existentchildhood.Today,itsauniversalcalamity,aglobalcatastrophe.Childhoodhasbecomethegreatcasualtyofmodern-dayliving.Allaroundusweareproducingscoresofkidswhohavenothadthejoy,whohavenotbeenaccordedtheright,whohavenotbeenallowedthefreedom,orknowingwhatitsliketobeakid.Todaychildrenareconstantlyencouragedtogrowupfaster,asifthisperiodknownaschildhoodisaburdensomestage,tobeenduredandusheredthrough,asswiftlyaspossible.Andonthatsubject,Iamcertainlyoneoftheworldsgreatestexperts.Oursisagenerationthathaswitnessedtheabrogationoftheparent-childcovenant.Psychologistsarepublishinglibrariesofbooksdetailingthedestructiveeffectsofdenyingoneschildrentheunconditionallovethatissonecessarytothehealthydevelopmentoftheirmindsandcharacter.Andbecauseofalltheneglect,toomanyofourkidshave,essentially,toraisethemselves.Theyaregrowingmoredistantfromtheirparents,grandparentsandotherfamilymembers,asallaroundustheindestructiblebondthatoncegluedtogetherthegenerations,unravels.Thisviolationhasbredanewgeneration,GenerationOletuscallit,thathasnowpickedupthetorchfromGenerationX.TheOstandsforagenerationthathaseverythingontheoutsidewealth,success,fancyclothingandfancycars,butanachingemptinessontheinside.Thatcavityinourchests,thatbarrennessatourcore,thatvoidinourcentreistheplacewheretheheartoncebeatandwhichloveonceoccupied.Anditsnotjustthekidswhoaresuffering.Itstheparentsaswell.Forthemorewecultivatelittle-adultsinkids-bodies,themoreremovedweourselvesbecomefromourownchild-likequalities,andthereissomuchaboutbeingachildthatisworthretaininginadultlife.Love,ladiesandgentlemen,isthehumanfamilysmostpreciouslegacy,itsrichestbequest,itsgoldeninheritance.Anditisatreasurethatishandeddownfromonegenerationtoanother.Previousagesmaynothavehadthewealthweenjoy.Theirhousesmayhavelackedelectricity,andtheysqueezedtheirmanykidsintosmallhomeswithoutcentralheating.Butthosehomeshadnodarkness,norweretheycold.Theywerelitbrightwiththeglowofloveandtheywerewarmedsnuglybytheveryheatofthehumanheart.Parents,undistractedbythelustforluxuryandstatus,accordedtheirchildrenprimacyintheirlives.Asyouallknow,ourtwocountriesbrokefromeachotheroverwhatThomasJeffersonreferredtoas“certaininalienablerights”.AndwhileweAmericansandBritishmightdisputethejusticeofhisclaims,whathasneverbeenindisputeisthatchildrenhavecertaininalienablerights,andthegradualerosionofthoserightshasledtoscoresofchildrenworldwidebeingdeniedthejoysandsecurityofchildhood.IwouldthereforeliketoproposetonightthatweinstallineveryhomeaChildrensUniversalBillofRights,thetenetsofwhichare:1.Therighttobelovedwithouthavingtoearnit2.Therighttobeprotected,withouthavingtodeserveit3.Therighttofeelvaluable,evenifyoucameintotheworldwithnothing4.Therighttobelistenedtowithouthavingtobeinteresting5.Therighttobereadabedtimestory,withouthavingtocompetewiththeeveningnews6.Therighttoaneducationwithouthavingtododgebulletsatschools7.Therighttobethoughtofasadorable(evenifyouhaveafacethatonlyamothercouldlove).Friends,thefoundationofallhumanknowledge,thebeginningofhumanconsciousness,mustbethateachandeveryoneofusisanobjectoflove.Beforeyouknowifyouhaveredhairorbrown,beforeyouknowifyouareblackorwhite,beforeyouknowofwhatreligionyouareapart,youhavetoknowthatyouareloved.Abouttwelveyearsago,whenIwasjustabouttostartmyBadtour,alittleboycamewithhisparentstovisitmeathomeinCalifornia.Hewasdyingofcancerandhetoldmehowmuchhelovedmymusicandme.Hisparentstoldmethathewasntgoingtolive,thatanydayhecouldjustgo,andIsaidtohim:“Look,IamgoingtobecomingtoyourtowninKansastoopenmytourinthreemonths.Iwantyoutocometotheshow.IamgoingtogiveyouthisjacketthatIworeinoneofmyvideos.”Hiseyeslitupandhesaid:“YouaregonnaGIVEittome?”Isaid“Yeah,butyouhavetopromisethatyouwillwearittotheshow.”Iwastryingtomakehimholdon.Isaid:“WhenyoucometotheshowIwanttoseeyouinthisjacketandinthisglove”andIgavehimoneofmyrhinestoneglovesandIneverusuallygivetherhinestoneglovesaway.Andhewasjustinheaven.Butmaybehewastooclosetoheaven,becausewhenIcametohistown,hehadalreadydied,andtheyhadburiedhiminthegloveandjacket.Hewasjust10yearsold.Godknows,Iknow,thathetriedhisbesttoholdon.Butatleastwhenhedied,heknewthathewasloved,notonlybyhisparents,butevenbyme,anearstranger,Ialsolovedhim.Andwithallofthatloveheknewthathedidntcomeintothisworldalone,andhecertainlydidntleaveitalone.Ifyouenterthisworldknowingyouarelovedandyouleavethisworldknowingthesame,theneverythingthathappensinbetweencanhedealtwith.Aprofessormaydegradeyou,butyouwillnotfeeldegraded,abossmaycrushyou,butyouwillnotbecrushed,acorporategladiatormightvanquishyou,butyouwillstilltriumph.Howcouldanyofthemtrulyprevailinpullingyoudown?Foryouknowthatyouareanobjectworthyoflove.Therestisjustpackaging.Butifyoudonthavethatmemoryofbeingloved,youarecondemnedtosearchtheworldforsomethingtofillyouup.Butnomatterhowmuchmoneyyoumakeorhowfamousyoubecome,youwillstillfellempty.Whatyouarereallysearchingforisunconditionallove,unqualifiedacceptance.Andthatwastheonethingthatwasdeniedtoyouatbirth.Friends,letmepaintapictureforyou.HereisatypicaldayinAmericasixyouthsundertheageof20willcommitsuicide,12childrenundertheageof20willdiefromfirearmsrememberthisisaDAY,notayear399kidswillbearrestedfordrugabuse,1,352babieswillbeborntoteenmothers.Thisishappeninginoneoftherichest,mostdevelopedcountriesinthehistoryoftheworld.Yes,inmycountrythereisanepidemicofviolencethatparallelsnootherindustrializednation.ThesearethewaysyoungpeopleinAmericaexpresstheirhurtandtheiranger.ButdontthinkthatthereisnotthesamepainandanguishamongtheircounterpartsintheUnitedKingdom.Studiesinthiscountryshowthateverysinglehour,threeteenagersintheUKinflictharmuponthemselves,oftenbycuttingorburningtheirbodiesortakinganoverdose.Thisishowtheyhavechosentocopewiththepainofneglectandemotionalagony.InBritain,asmanyas20%offamilieswillonlysitdownandhavedinnertogetheronceayear.Onceayear!Andwhataboutthetime-honoredtraditionofreadingyourkidabedtimestory?Researchfromthe1980sshowedthatchildrenwhoarereadto,hadfargreaterliteracyandsignificantlyoutperformedtheirpeersatschool.Andyet,lessthan33%ofBritishchildrenagestwotoeighthavearegularbedtimestoryreadtothem.Youmaynotthinkmuchofthatuntilyoutakeintoaccountthat75%oftheirparentsDIDhavethatbedtimestorywhentheywerethatage.Clearly,wedonothavetoaskourselveswhereallofthispain,angerandviolentbehaviorcomesfrom.Itisself-evidentthatchildrenarethunderingagainsttheneglect,quakingagainsttheindifferenceandcryingoutjusttobenoticed.ThevariouschildprotectionagenciesintheUSsaythatmillionsofchildrenarevictimsofmaltreatmentintheformofneglect,intheaverageyear.Yes,neglect.Inrichhomes,privilegedhomes,wiredtothehiltwitheveryelectronicgadget.Homeswhereparentscomehome,buttheyrenotreallyhome,becausetheirheadsarestillattheoffice.Andtheirkids?Well,theirkidsjustmakedowithwhateveremotionalcrumbstheyget.AndyoudontgetmuchfromendlessTV,computergamesandvideos.Thesehard,coldnumberswhichforme,wrenchthesoulandshakethespirit,shouldindicatetoyouwhyIhavedevotedsomuchofmytimeandresourcesintomakingournewHealtheKidsinitiativeacolossalsuccess.Ourgoalissimpletorecreatetheparent/childbond,renewitspromiseandlightthewayforwardforallthebeautifulchildrenwhoaredestinedonedaytowalkthisearth.Butsincethisismyfirstpubliclecture,andyouhavesowarmlywelcomedmeintoyourhearts,IfeelthatIwanttotellyoumore.Weeachhaveourownstory,andinthatsensestatisticscanbecomepersonal.Theysaythatparentingislikedancing.Youtakeonestep,yourchildtakesanother.Ihavediscoveredthatgettingparentstore-dedicatethemselvestotheirchildrenisonlyhalfthestory.Theotherhalfispreparingthechildrentore-accepttheirparents.WhenIwasveryyoungIrememberthatwehadthiscrazymuttofadognamed“BlackGirl,”amixofwolfandretriever.Notonlywasntshemuchofaguarddog,shewassuchascaredandnervousthingthatitisawondershedidnotpassouteverytimeatruckrumbledby,orathunderstormsweptthroughIndiana.MysisterJanetandIgavethatdogsomuchlove,butweneverreallywonbackthesenseoftrustthathadbeenstolenfromherbyherpreviousowner.Weknewheusedtobeather.Wedidntknowwithwhat.Butwhateveritwas,itwasenoughtosuckthespiritrightoutofthatdog.Alotofkidstodayarehurtpuppieswhohaveweanedthemselvesofftheneedforlove.Theycouldntcarelessabouttheirparents.Lefttotheirowndevices,theycherishtheirindependence.Theyhavemovedonandhavelefttheirparentsbehind.Thentherearethefarworsecasesofchildrenwhoharboranimosityandresentmenttowardtheirparents,sothatanyoverturethattheirparentsmightundertakewouldbethrownforcefullybackintheirface.Tonight,Idontwantanyofustomakethismistake.ThatswhyImcallinguponalltheworldschildrenbeginningwithallofusheretonighttoforgiveourparents,ifwefeltneglected.Forgivethemandteachthemhowtoloveagain.YouprobablywerentsurprisedtohearthatIdidnothaveanidyllicchildhood.Thestrainandtensionthatexistsinmyrelationshipwithmyownfatheriswelldocumented.Myfatherisatoughmanandhepushedmybrothersandmehard,fromtheearliestage,tobethebestperformerswecouldbe.Hehadgreatdifficultyshowingaffection.Heneverreallytoldmehelovedme.Andheneverreallycomplimentedmeeither.IfIdidagreatshow,hewouldtellmeitwasagoodshow.AndifIdidanOKshow,hetoldmeitwasalousyshow.Heseemedintent,aboveallelse,onmakingusacommercialsuccess.Andatthathewasmorethanadept.MyfatherwasamanagerialgeniusandmybrothersandIoweourprofessionalsuccess,innosmallmeasure,totheforcefulwaythathepushedus.HetrainedmeasashowmanandunderhisguidanceIcouldntmissastep.ButwhatIreallywantedwasaDad.Iwantedafatherwhoshowedmelove.Andmyfatherneverdidthat.HeneversaidIloveyouwhilelookingmestraightintheeye,heneverplayedagamewithme.Henevergavemeapiggybackride,heneverthrewapillowatme,orawaterballoon.ButIrememberoncewhenIwasaboutfouryearsold,therewasalittlecarnivalandhepickedmeupandputmeonapony.Itwasatinygesture,probablysomethingheforgotfiveminuteslater.ButbecauseofthatmomentIhavethisspecialplaceinmyheartforhim.Becausethatshowkidsare,thelittlethingsmeansomuchtothemandforme,thatonemomentmeanteverything.Ionlyexperienceditthatonetime,butitmademefeelreallygood,abouthimandtheworld.ButnowIamafathermyself,andonedayIwasthinkingaboutmyownchildren,PrinceandParisandhowIwantedthemtothinkofmewhentheygrowup.Tobesure,IwouldlikethemtorememberhowIalwayswantedthemwithmewhereverIwent,howIalwaystriedtoputthembeforeeverythingelse.Buttherearealsochallengesintheirlives.Becausemykidsarestalkedbypaparazzi,theycantalwaysgotoaparkoramoviewithme.Sowhatiftheygrowolderandresentme,andhowmychoicesimpactedtheiryouth?Whywerentwegivenanaveragechildhoodlikealltheotherkids,theymightask?AndatthatmomentIpraythatmychildrenwillgivemethebenefitofthedoubt.Thattheywillsaytothemselves:“Ourdaddydidthebesthecould,giventheuniquecircumstancesthathefaced.Hemaynothavebeenperfect,buthewasawarmanddecentman,whotriedtogiveusalltheloveintheworld.”Ihopethattheywillalwaysfocusonthepositivethings,onthesacrificesIwillinglymadeforthem,andnotcriticizethethingstheyhadtogiveup,ortheerrorsIvemade,andwillcertainlycontinuetomake,inraisingthem.Forwehaveallbeensomeoneschild,andweknowthatdespitetheverybestofplansandefforts,mistakeswillalwaysoccur.Thatsjustbeinghuman.AndwhenIthinkaboutthis,ofhowIhopethatmychildrenwillnotjudgemeunkindly,andwillforgivemyshortcomings,Iamforcedtothinkofmyownfatheranddespitemyearlierdenials,Iamforcedtoadmitthatmemusthavelovedme.Hedidloveme,andIknowthat.Therewerelittlethingsthatshowedit.WhenIwasakidIhadarealsweettoothwealldid.Myfavoritefoodwasglazeddoughnutsandmyfatherknewthat.SoeveryfewweeksIwouldcomedownstairsinthemorningandthereonthekitchencounterwasabagofglazeddoughnutsnonote,noexplanationjustthedoughnuts.ItwaslikeSantaClaus.SometimesIwouldthinkaboutstayinguplateatnight,soIcouldseehimleavethemthere,butjustlikewithSantaClaus,Ididntwanttoruinthemagicforfearthathewouldneverdoitagain.Myfatherhadtoleavethemsecretlyatnight,soasnoonemightcatchhimwithhisguarddown.Hewasscaredofhumanemotion,hedidntunderstanditorknowhowtodealwithit.Buthedidknowdoughnuts.AndwhenIallowthefloodgatestoopenup,thereareothermemoriesthatcomerushingback,memoriesofothertinygestures,howeverimperfect,thatshowedthathedidwhathecould.Sotonight,ratherthanfocusingonwhatmyfatherdidntdo,Iwanttofocusonallthethingshediddoandonhisownpersonalchallenges.Iwanttostopjudginghim.IhavestartedreflectingonthefactthatmyfathergrewupintheSouth,inaverypoorfamily.HecameofageduringtheDepressionandhisownfather,whostruggledtofeedhischildren,showedlittleaffectiontowardshisfamilyandraisedmyfatherandhissiblingswithanironfist.WhocouldhaveimaginedwhatitwasliketogrowupapoorblackmanintheSouth,robbedofdignity,bereftofhope,strugglingtobecomeamaninaworldthatsawmyfatherassubordinate.IwasthefirstblackartisttobeplayedonMTVandIrememberhowbigadealitwaseventhen.Andthatwasinthe80s!MyfathermovedtoIndianaandhadalargefamilyofhisown,workinglonghoursinthesteelmills,workthatkillsthelungsandhumblesthespirit,alltosupporthisfamily.Isitanywonderthathefounditdifficulttoexposehisfeelings?Isitanymysterythatheharde
