Unit 1 Can you play the guitar?Section A (1a-1c)1. Analysis of the teaching materials1) Status and functionThis period is the first one of Unit 1, with its focus on students abilities and the names of different clubs. This topic is related to Ss, so Ss are eager to know something about this lesson. In this lesson Ss also learn how to describe their abilities and how to ask and answer about someones abilities. Such topic is very practical and meaningful. It can help Ss know what they can do, All activities in this class can help Ss master key words and target languages.2) Analysis of the SsThere are 36 Ss in my class, they have been studying English for a long time. Most of them have strong interest in English study, but some of them are afraid to speak English in public. 2. Analysis of the goalsOne is knowledge goal. It includes 2 elements: words and expressions, and target languages. You can see them on the screen, the Ss should know how to read and write them. In addition, you can also see ability objects, moral object, Here I want to explain the moral goals in details, English is not an isolated subject, has something to do with Chinese, math, history and moral education as well. We can also teach English by achieving the moral goals. The moral goal of this lesson is to encourage students to join different kinds of clubs after school, andcooperatewith eachotheractively.We also can see teaching key points and difficult points on the screen. 3. Teaching and learning methods Now we know what to teach above, next lets see how to teach them. My designed concepts are: Taskbased language teaching, cooperative and communicative methods. “Task-based” language teaching is a very good method of teaching English. During this period, Ill adopt the ways of listening, speaking, writing, pairwork, and groupwork. These ways can stimulate Ss to think and encourage them to join in the activities. We have already known what to teach and how to teach them. Then who do we teach? Of course the answer is the Ss. So we should know the Ss very well at the same time, we should know what they need, when and how to give Ss our help. The Ss of Grade 7 are active to speak English, but not confident to speak in front of class. So we can grasp this opportunity to train their speaking and listening abilities. 4. Teaching and learning aids In this lesson, I will use the multi-media computer and forms to arouse the students interests and small special gifts that are made by me to prize Ss.5. Teaching ProceduresI will divide this part in to five steps. Step 1 Warming-up,Enjoy a flash ,this video talks about music. Beginning the class with music will offer the students a happy and easy atmosphere;Talk about the abilities. Oral English can enable them to communicate bravely and fluently and cooperate very well, which will activate the class atmosphere and promote their interests to learn.Step 2 Pre-taskShow some pictures, they are some kinds of activities, lead Ss to learn the new words and new structure.Learning new words like this can greatly promote the Ss interests in this class; it can providearealsituationtounderstandthemeaning ofthewords.Askstudentstoaccomplish1aon Ss books thenchecktheanswers.After learning new words, I thinkitcan makethem haveageneralimpression ofthewords and new structure. So I need to check them if they remember the words or not.Show my photos to students, then talk with students what I can do and I cant do.Talk about my abilities using simplesentences, theyarecurious and active. Then I will give a sample to Ss in order to help them make sentences easily. To present a sample is much easier for the Ss to learn.Make dialogues using different personal pronouns to make sure that Ss grasp the usage of modal verb-can. All these are designed on the basis of the learning rule, thats from words to sentences, from easiness to difficulties. Ask Ss to make conversations using target languages. At the same time give Ss a model. It is very necessary to give an example before the activity, from this; Ss know what to do and how to do it. Finally ask Ss to act the dialogues. Before this activity, I will divide our class into six groups.We will clap our hands for them.That will help Ss predict something in the listening material and get the better listening result.Step 3 While-taskIntroduce my friend, they are talking about what they can do and what club they want to join, lets listen the first time, number the conversations and correct their answers quickly. Let Ss listen again, they will complete the conversations. Ask three of students to say their answers, then check the answers and read conversations together. This activity gives Ss practice in understanding the target language in spoken conversations.More challenge about listening, Ss can feel a real situation in different clubs, and help Ss to choose what club Mike wants to join.I think it is good way to not only review knowledge but also help students arouse their interests in learning English.Make conversations to consolidate new words and use target languages fluently.If Ss give us conversations, we will give big hands to them. Ask Ss some questions and write down on the forms. Ask several Ss to present their reports before the class. These activities will help to cultivate the students ability to analyze, practice, and innovate, and meanwhile strengthen the cooperation among themselves.Step 4. Post-task In this part, Ill go through the new words and Grammar Focus with the whole class. I can ask them what we have learnt in this class.
