Unit 3 Sports DayThe 1st PeriodMain points of teaching: a. Asking Wh-questions.b. Asking and answering “Yes/No” questions.c. Using be going to to talk about plans.Difficult points of teaching: be going toTeaching aids: Cassette player, word cards, etc.Teaching steps:I. Revisiona. Ask and answer the questions “Whens Day?”.b. Ask the pupils “What do you do on Day?”II. Teach PB Aa. Bring in photos of last years Sports Day. Use a clipboard with some notepaper and a whistle to show that the teacher is acting a PE teacher.b. Show the pupils the photos of Sports Day. Tell them Its some of the activities and ask the pupils to recall vocabulary they know for the actions, e.g. run, jump, etc.c. Demonstrate new items of vocabulary and write the names of the activities on the board. Ask the pupils to stand up and do the actions when the teacher points to one of the words/phrases on the board.d. Point to activities on the board and ask the pupils What can you do? Encourage them to reply I cane. Play the Pupils Book Cassette and point to the speech bubbles. Ask the pupils to repeat after the cassette.III. Ex.a. Show the clipboard and read the rubric at the top of the page.b. Play the Pupils Book Cassette or read the speech bubbles of the people on the page and ask the pupils to repeat them after the teacher.c. Point to the other children on the page and ask the pupils what they can do as shown in the thought bubbles.d. Tell the pupils to work in pairs and role-play the PE teacher and the children. They exchange roles after each childs answer. Monitor to check that the pupils are making correct sentences.e. Check the answers with the whole class.f. Do WB. Ex. (P. 13)IV. Show the picture cards and ask the pupils What is he/she doing?d. Ask the pupils What lesson are you going to have this morning?II. Teach PB Ba. Play the Pupils Book Cassette. Explain that the principal and the teacher are planning a Sports Day.b. Read the conversation and ask the class to read it after the teacher. Practise the falling intonation for the question Whats Bob going to do?c. Divide the class into two large groups and ask them to role-play the principal and Miss Li, asking and answering questions about the other children in the picture.d. Before class, ask a few pupils to tell what they are going to do at Sports Day. Make notes and bring them to class.e. Write the names of the pupils the teacher talked to on the board. Next to the names write the activities they have said theyre going to do. Ask them questions using the wrong activity, t.t. Are you going to ? When the pupils answer No, Im not, ask them What are you going to do? Encourage them to answer Im going to f. Using the list, ask the class a mixture of correct and incorrect questions about what the pupils are going to do, e.g. Is he/she going to ? When the pupils answer No, ask them What is he/she going to do?g. Tell the pupils that they are going to hear a conversation about what the children are going to do on Sports Day. Read the names of the pictured children out loud.h. Play the Pupils Book Cassette and tell the pupils to write the names in the correct place.III. Ex.a. Divide the class into groups of 9 or 11. Pupils make dialogues in their groups.b. Pupils ask and answer questions on What are you going to do at Sports Day?II. Teach PB C and Da. Point to the characters in the pictures and read their speech bubbles aloud. Ask the pupils to point to the speech bubbles as the teacher reads them.b. Play the Pupils Book Cassette for the pupils and ask them to say the sentences after the cassette.c. Ask the pupils to look at picture 4. Ask them What does Koko catch? Explain an event is an activity such as a race or the long jump.d. Ask the pupils to read the story again. Show them where to write their answers.e. Check the answers with the pupils.III. Ex. a. Pupils act out the story.b. Do WB. Ex. (P. 15)IV. Summing-up and for homeworka. Revise the lesson.b. Copy the story.Unit 3 Sports DayThe 4th PeriodI. Revisiona. Divide the class into groups and let the pupils act out the dialogue.b. Get pupils to make dialogues using the sentence pattern What are you going to do?II. Teach PB E and Fa. Play the Pupils Book Cassette and ask the pupils to listen to the sound and the words.b. Say the words slowly and clearly. Check that the pupils are saying the sound correctly.c. Point to the pictures and check that the pupils can say the words without the teachers model.d. Play the Pupils Book Cassette again. Ask the pupils to listen to the poem.e. Play the cassette again and tell them to circle the same letters with the same sound. Get the pupils to repeat the poem.f. Ask the pupils to turn to page 77. Tell them to choose two things to do on Sports Day. They should write their names in two places on the list.g. Tell the pupils to work in pairs. Explain that they should ask each other what events they are going to do according to what they have written down in their own programme. They add their friends name to their list.h. Tell the pupils to change partners and talk to a different pupil. They ask and answer questions about what they and their first partner are going to do and write the names in their programme.i. The pupils display their programmes in the classroom and find out what their friends are toing to do on Sports Day.III. Ex.a. Do WB. Ex. (P. 16) Ask the pupils to look at the top of the page and listen to the Workbook Cassette. They need to circle the words with the same sound and the same letters according to what they hear on the tape.b. Do WB. Ex. (P. 17) Ask the pupils to look at the pictures and read the sentences. Then tell them to complete the sentences by writing the correct events in the blanks.IV. Summing-up and for homeworka. Revise the lesson.b. Make a Sports Day programme.Unit 3 Sports DayThe 5th PeriodI. Revisiona. Pupils revise the lesson by themselves.b. Pupils role-play the dialogues in their own groups.
