Vanity Fair refers to a stop along the pilgrims progress: a never-ending fair held in a town called Vanity, which is meant to represent mans sinful attachment to worldly things. The subtitle of the book is a novel without a hero. For one thing, it is referring that the character in this novel is selfish and chasing the vanity. For another, the novel is all about two girls.Two heroines are bothbeautiful, but with different background. Amelia Sedley was born in a rich family, she devote her youth to George Osborne. Becky Sharp is a girl of poor painter, her parents died when she was 17.Because of her teachers Discrimination. Even as a child, Becky desires it above all things. After they graduate, Becky came to visitone weekin Amelia. She knows the Amelias brother Joseph is a Tax collectors and show Admiration to him. But she failed because of the Georges undermine. After George and Amelia married, George addicted in Gambling and prepared for eloping with Becky. But Becky married with Rawdon, because she attempts to get the legacy of Miss Matilda Crawley. Its really provoking Miss Crawley to anger. She and Rawdon lay a snare to cheat Amelias husband Georges money. Then, George was dead in a battle. But Amelia infatuated with his husband. Even he dead, Amelia still dont get marry with other. Finally, Becky told her that George was intend to elope with her. Amelia comes to realize the truth and get married. After the war, Rawdon becomes a Colonel, he and Becky have a good time in Paris. Back to London they have the little Rawdon. Becky try her best to moving up into the upper-class but finally she failed and notorious for her behavior. And finally Beckys affair with her lover is known by her husband, he leave Becky alone. The author Thackeray sketched a realistic Vanity Fair picture in the novel vividly, showing the despicable behavior of cheating, rebelling against the treacherous, snobbish vanity incisively and vividly in the life. Thackerays novels are objective, he wont cover or distort the characters and fact by basing on his own love or wishes, He reached every aspect of the matter of humans likes and dislikes, and he didnt cover the disadvantages of the good characters and didnt leave out the cunning and mean people.At the end of this novel，he write that ”Ah!
