hard?Youll learn much about the topic after you have learned the text.Since all of you have already learned English for almost five years,you must have something to say about it.(Teaching shows the following on the screen.)Look at the screen.Before you read the text,use what you know about learning a language to answer the questions on the screen.Pair work or group work.Later,well ask some of you to answer the questions.1.What are some of the difficulties we must face when we try to learn a foreign language?2.How do we learn our mother tongue?3.How is learning a foreign language different from learning our mother tongue?4.What are the characteristics of successful language learners?5.How do these characteristics and skills help us learn?6.How can we develop our confidence?7.What can we do to learn better and faster?(After a few minutes discussion.)T:Are you ready?Ss:Yes,we are.T:Please give us the answers.One by one.S1:Ill answer the first question.When I learn a foreign language,I find that it is hard to remember English words.Besides,I dont know how to express myself when we talk about a topic.S2:I find it hard to write in English.When a topic is given to us,I often get the lower marks though I try my best to do it.Listening English is also difficult for me.When I see an interesting English film,I hardly understand its dialogues and have to see the Chinese subtitles.S3:I answer the second question.When we began to learn our mother tongue,we just communicated with others.Later we went to school and began to learn to write or express ourselves with some complex sentences.We seldom find difficulty in speaking it.S4:I answer Question Three.We learn our mother tongue in all kinds of situations,that is to say,we learn it by using it.But for learning a foreign language,things are different.I began to learn English when I attended junior middle school.We learn English mainly in the classroom.S5:They like the language they are learning and are always enjoying it.When the teacher asks questions,they answer them actively.S6:As to the fifth question,I think,confidence is very important.Whatever we do,we must do it with confidence,patience and
