In Romancing the Stone Joan goes to Colombia to save her sister who is kidnapped. In the sequel (续集) Joan goes to the fictional kingdom of Kadir in the Middle East. For all of you entrepreneurs (创业者) struggling to make ends meet but committing to seeing your dreams through, this article is for you.I didnt have a fulltime job until I was 27. My family and friends thought I was going_nowhereI didnt feel that way though. I wasnt doing well financially. Sure, friends of mine got married and bought houses. But neither of those choices excited me. Taking the road less traveled is part of being an entrepreneur. I wanted to follow my dream, which was to work with my hands and be creative. I wanted to be my own boss.At the time, I was making toy animals and selling them at street fairs. I was learning how to sell them to people. It wasnt easy, but I stayed true to myself. I was enthusiastic and hardworking. I know those were the qualities that led me to get hired at my first job. So dont give up hope. One Sunday, I read an article about a startup in Fremont called Worlds of Wonder (WoW). It was a toy company. I knew I could make a better teddy bear than the one they were marketing, although I had designed just a few cuddly toys for another company. The next day, I visited WoWs offices in person and told them they needed me. To my surprise, they agreed to interview me. They could tell I was enthusiastic. I was so enthusiastic, in fact, that I had bought a new suit for the occasion. Many of us dont take on new things because were sure we dont have the skills. At age 8, she informed me she planned to become a filmmaker and stuck to that until, at 17, she and I decided that instead of taking a course in film, she should be apprenticed to a brilliant sound editor, Bruce Nyznik, and his talented associates such as Peter Tilley, with whom I was then working.Martas love of trains led to the creation of her first film, Train of Thought, in 1991. After that transition from sound to film, she continued to direct and produce, as well as edit. Her works include Shattered Dreames, a 2020 documentary about a disadvantaged youth in Toronto; The Saviour of Ceylon, a film about the heroism of RCAF officer Leonard Birchall; and the sevenpart television series Being 80 with Jean Vanier.Marta was diagnosed with cancer nine years before her death. She saw her cancer as something to be grateful for because it made her concentrate her attention on lasting spiritual realities, rather than the temporary passions that define most of our lives and most of the time.Marta had worked as an editor and director on more than 30 films with Jean Vanier, the founder of LArche, an international organization that assists the developmentally handicapped. So she came to her great trial with some hope that her physical pain could promote spiritual growth. She had had little contact with formal religious practice, so what changed her was having to cope and find meaning in the cancer that threatened her life.In her final year or so, she began to write about her experience with cancer and the enlightenment (启发) that came with it. She meant to give purpose to her life by helping others. Above all, she wanted her friends and family to share the help she was able to give.In a conversation shortly before Martas death, I expressed some discouragement in my life, and she advised me to concentrate on something for which I was grateful. 5What did Marta do in order to achieve her goal?AShe decided to pay a visit to Bruce Nyznik.BShe planned to take a related course.CShe wanted to learn from a famous sound editor.DShe hoped to make friends with Peter Tilley. 依据文章第一段中的“she should be apprenticed to a brilliant sound editor, Bruce Nyznik”可知,Marta不想学习电影方面的课程,而是直接跟着音效剪辑师学习。6Marta began her film career _Athe moment she got to know Bruce NyznikBafter she saw the film Train of ThoughtCwhen it was the time of early ninetiesDas soon as the sound film came into being解析:选C细节理解题。 7After Marta was diagnosed with cancer she _Ahad to turn her attention to her conditionBproduced over 30 films with Jean VanierCrealized what defined most of her lifeDtook a positive attitude toward life解析:选D细节理解题。 8Marta wrote about her experience with cancer to _Ashare it with other cancer victimsBremind her family of her serious illnessCdo her bit to provide help to othersDprovide information for cancer research解析:选C细节理解题。依据文章倒数第二段中的“give purpose to her life by helping others . she wanted her friends and family to share the help she was able to give”可知,她想用这种方式帮助他人。C(2020长春二模)On the first day of school our professor introduced himself and challenged us to get to know someone we didnt know. I looked round when a gentle hand touched my shoulder. I turned around to find a wrinkled, little old lady with a smile. She said, “Hi, handsome. My name is Rose. Im eightyseven years old. Can I give you a hug?” I laughed and enthusiastically responded,“Of course you may!” She gave me a giant squeeze.“Why_are_you_in_college_at_such_a_young,_innocent_age?” I asked.“I always dreamed of having a college education and now Im getting one!” she told me. After class we walked to the Student Union building and shared a chocolate milkshake. We became instant friends.Every day of the next three months we would leave class together and talk nonstop. I was always listening to this “time machine” as she shared her wisdom and experience with me. Over the course of the year, Rose became a campus icon (偶像) and she easily made friends wherever she went. At the end of the semester we invited Rose to speak at our football dinner. Ill never forget what she taught us.“We do not stop playing because we are old; we grow old because we stop playing. There is a huge difference between growing older and growing up. Anybody can grow older. That doesnt take any talent or ability. The idea is to grow up by always finding opportunities in change. Have no regrets. The elderly usually dont have regrets for what we did, but rather for things we did not do. The only people who fear death are those with regrets.” She concluded her speech by courageously singing The Rose. She challenged each of us to study the lyrics (歌词) and live them out in our daily life. At the years end she finished the college degree she had begun all those years. One week after graduation Rose died peacefully in her sleep. 9What happened to the
