We started to learn language when we were born. However, people are used to speaking their native language, so immigrants are having many problems between the first generation and the second generation because they dont have the same native language. Also, the second generation is losing their identity. Especially in America, there are many immigrants that came from different countries to succeed in the States. Because they suffer in lots of areas such as getting a job and trying to speak English, they want their children to speak English, not only at school, but also at home in order to be more successful. Because of this situation, their children are losing their identity and, even more, they are ignoring their parents whose English is not very good.I think most immigrants are trying to preserve their native language in their new country, but this doesnt help very much in getting a good job. My aunt taught Korean to her children not to help them succeed in the U. S.; she did so, hopefully, to help them establish a Korean identity. Though the second generation is born in the new country, they often get confused about their identity because they look different from others, and also, if they visit their parents country, they will probably feel different from other people there too. My cousins told me that when they visited Korea a few years ago, they felt different from other Koreans. They could even feel it just strolling around the street because they wore different clothes and walked differently. We must realize that language is important and valuable for many reasons. Immigrants should make an effort not to be ignored by their children and to make their children understand their background by teaching them the parents language. This is very important, not only for the harmony of the family, but also in helping the second generation establish their identity.36. According to the text, what is the problem of the first generation immigrants?A. Their children are losing their identity.B. They have lost their identity.C. Their children speak different languages.D. They cannot speak their native language.37. It can be inferred from the text that _.A. most of the immigrants cant understand EnglishB. most of the immigrants are not successful in careersC. to some degree, the parents are to blame for their kids loss of identityD. the second generation immigrants cant understand their parents language38. My aunt taught her children Korean _.A. so that they knew they were of Korean originB. so that they would be more successful in the U. S.C. because she didnt want them to speak EnglishD. because she wanted them to respect her39. According to the text, the native language is important and valuable to immigrants in that _.A. it gives them self-confidence and better chanceB. it makes the second generation love their motherlandC. it helps the second generation to understand their parentsD. it strengthens the family ties and reminds them of their identityB大家往往会羡慕别人,但实际上“人人都有本难念的经”.怎样面对生活的烦恼?这可是大有学问。Rich or poor, we all have problems: that unfaithful mate, that irritating(恼人的) colleague, that persistent disease, the investment that is turning into a huge loss. How do we remain calm, positive and even elegant in the face of all these difficulties of life? The following suggestions may help.It comes with the pay. It comes with the pay. This has become my favorite saying for work-related frustrations. Take every day as a bonus. When we learn to treasure every moment of what we have, we begin to see life in a whole new perspective. Its all in the mind. Sure, the psychologists tell us it is important we work at resolving problems. But they also say if you try to resolve a problem that would not go away, it would only compound(使更复杂) the frustration. If you tell yourself there isnt a problem, there wont be one. Its all in the mind.Stop thinking about your own problemhelp others instead. A lady who is combating a life-threatening disease revealed she coped with her illness by making herself useful, by offering help to others in a similar situation. She has spoken to at least five other women with breast cancer. She says that the sharing has helped her to find fresh meaning in her own life.Never give up on your dream. Why do we give in and give up when we meet difficulties? Is it because we have no confidence in our cause and no commitment for what we pursue? It was said that Albert Einsteins last request on his death bed was to be given his equations and his unfinished statement declining the presidency of Israel.Einstein first picked up his equations and lamented to his son, If only I had more mathematics! What a great persistent spirit! One strong-hearted lady was the late head of the tragic Kennedy family, Rose Kennedy. She said this on nationwide television one week after losing yet another son to an assassins bulletBoddy Kennedy: And we go on our way with no regrets not looking backwards to the past, but we shall carry on with courage. Not the end of the world. Do you know something else? Ive learned that care as you might, love as you might, some people just dont care back. And its not the end of the world. Women often are told, “You cant have it all.” Sometimes what the speaker really is saying is “You choose a career, so you cant expect to have closer relationships or a happy family life”, or “You have a wonderful husband and children-whats all this about wanting a career?” But women need to understand and develop both aspects of well-being, if they have to feel good about themselves. Our study shows that, for women, well-being has two dimensions. One is mastery, which includes self-esteem, a sense of control over your life, and low levels of anxiety and depression. Mastery is closely related to the “doing” side of life, to work and activity. Pleasure is the other dimension, and it is composed of happiness, satisfaction and optimism. It is tied more closely to the “feeling” side of life. The two are independent of each other. Woman could be high in mastery and low in pleasure, and vice versa. For example, a woman who has a good job, but whose mother has just died, might be feeling very good about herself and in control of her work life, but the pleasure side could be damaged for a time. The concepts of mastery and pleasure could help us identify the sources of well-being for women, and remedy past mistakes. In the past, women are encouraged to look only at the feeling side of life as the source of all well-being. But we know that both mastery and pleasure are critical. And mastery seems to be achieved largely through work. In our study, all the groups of employed women rated significantly high in mastery than did women who were not employed.A womans well-being is enhanced when she takes on multiple role. At least by middle adulthood, the women who were involved in the combination of roles-marriages, motherhood, and employment-were the highest in well-being, in spite of warning about stress and strain.44. It can be inferred from the first paragraph that_.A. for women, a sense of mastery is more important than a sense of pleasureB. a sense of mastery and a sense of pleasure are both indispensable to womenC. women cant have a sense of mastery and a sense of pleasure at the same timeD. for women, a sense of pleasure is more important than a sense of mastery45. The authors attitude towards women having a career is_.A. positive B. critical C. neutral(中立) D. realistic46. One can conclude from the passage that if a woman takes on several social roles _.A. it will he easier for her to overcome stress and strainB. she will be more successful in her careerC. the chances of getting promoted will be greaterD. her life will he richer and more meaningful47. The most appropriate title for the passage would be _ _.A. The Well-Being of Career WomenB. Two Aspects of Womens Well-BeingC. Sources of Mastery and PleasureD. Multiple Roles of Women in SocietyV.趣味阅读Help!
