For decades now, film studios have used so-called test screenings to get feedback from members of the public before a movie comes out. While test audience members are usually asked to fill in a questionnaire after a screening, telling the film studio what they liked and didnt like, media giant Disney has come up with a more high-tech solution.According to a paper published this summer by the companys researchers, Disney is measuring test audiences reactions by using special cameras placed inside cinemas. Pairing the cameras with custom software, the company can track what each audience member is feeling at any point in the movie, from anger to joy. This works by mapping 68 different points on each audience members face. The cameras can see in the dark, and the software can figure out a persons mood based on the slightest of facial expressions. Its hoped that this new method will allow more detailed feedback from test audiences. Rather than relying on audience members to recall their feelings after the movies over, it can accurately read their reactions in real-time.Test screenings are highly valued in the movie industry, and several well-known movies have been greatly altered following feedback. Viewers of E.T., the Extra-Terrestrial (1982), would have left the cinema feeling a whole lot differently if it werent for its test audiences feedback. “In one cut of the film that was tested, E.T. died instead of going home in his spaceship. You wont be surprised to hear that the test audience in question didnt warm to this ending at all,” wrote media website Den of Geek. But for those who are concerned about privacy, the cameras wont be installed in public cinemas. After all, unless youre part of a test audience, being in front of the camera is best left to the movie stars.8. Why are test screenings necessary?A. To amuse us.B. To influence a movie.C. To get reactions of the audience.D. To spy on the audience.9. How does the high-tech method work?A. Audiences recall their detailed feelings.B. The cameras can read accurate feedback from the audience.C. The company can track each audience member.D. The company are measuring audiences reactions.10. What do we know about E.T?A. It doesnt warm the audience.B. It altered audiences feedback.C. The original ending is different.D. E.T died in his spaceship.11. What can we infer from the passage?A. People worry about privacy.B. The cameras wont be put in public cinemas.C. The technology of test screenings is reliable.D. You can be in front of the camera.【答案】8. C 9. B10. C 11. All shes ever wanted to do is to become an elementary school teacher. However, Hipp has racked up(累计) $100,000 (about 0.67 million yuan) in student loan debt and isnt able to earn enough through working as a part-time skating instructor and restaurant server to live anywhere other than home.To some degree, multigenerational households have always been a part of American life. However, the number of adults who have been moving back in with their parents or never leaving home in the first place has been growing steadily. The Pew Research Center recently reported that 2020 was a milestone in the evolving living arrangements of young adults in the US. Until 2020, the most common living arrangement for young adults was to be living in their own property as part of a couple. UBS Financial Services, a Swiss global financial services company, released a report that even suggests one reason for the growing number of young adults still living at home could be that their family doesnt want them to leave. The report shows that 74 percent of millennials(千禧一代) get some kind of financial support from their parents after college. Millennials see their parents as peers, friends and mentors(导师). In return, their parents happily provide financial support well into adulthood, helping fund everything for them. Stuart Hoffman, chief economist for the PNC Financial Group in the US, said “Although job growth for millennials since 2020 has improved, that doesnt necessarily mean that millennials are starting to fly the nest, he said. “They may like living at home and being able to save money.”He added, “While it has held back household formation and purchases on things, they are probably traveling more and eating out more. I dont know if it represents a change in moral values, its much more common for adult children to live in their parents homes because its becoming part of the culture.”12. Whats the purpose of Caitlin Hipps story?A. To prove the authors view.B. To introduce her situation.C. To present the topic.D. To make readers rethink about the problem.13. What does the underlined part (Paragraph1) probably refer to?A. live with parentsB. live independentlyC. stay at homeD. leave home14. According to Hoffman, which of the following is true?A. It isnt necessary for millennials to leave the nest.B. They can spend less money on their daily life.C. Moral values are changing gradually.D. Young adults are living in a different life style.15. Whats the main idea of the passage?A. Why is the number of the millennial growing steadily?B. Why has the percentage of adults living with their parents been on the rise?C. C推理判断题。在西方的传统观念中,成年即意味着要离开父母,独立生活。然而现在,越来越多的西方年轻人更倾向于与父母同住。作者在第一段讲述Caitlin Hipp的故事,就是为了引出本文话题,“在某种程度上,几代同堂一直都是美国人生活的一部分。然而,搬回来和父母同住、或从一开始就没离开过家的成年人数量正稳步上升。”故选C。13. B词义猜测题。根据第一段最后一句However, Hipp has racked up(累计) $100,000 (about 0.67 million yuan) in student loan debt and isnt able to earn enough through working as a part-time skating instructor and restaurant server. Hipp身负10万美元(约67万人民币)的学生贷款债务。她目前的工作是兼职滑冰教练和餐厅服务员,所以他挣的工资根本无法让她离家独立生活。可知划线部分live anywhere other than home.的意思是“离开父母独自生活”,故选B。14. I dont know if it represents a change in moral values, its much more common for adult children to live in their parents homes because its becoming part of the culture.” Why has the percentage of adults living with their parents been on the rise? “Jane Eyre” was published in 1847.
