The last thing I remember about my real mom was watching the ambulance taking her away from us. After my mom died, my dad started abusing my brothers and me. I was sent away to live with one relative after another but no one would ever want to keep me for long. I was miserable almost all of the time. Finally, when I was five, my moms sister, Aunt Bonnie, and her husband, Uncle Jesse, said that they would take me in, and they became my legal guardians. From then on, they became my family. I called Aunt Bonnie Mom and Uncle Jesse Dad. When I was six, Uncle Jesse was diagnosed with cancer and finally died shortly after my seventh birthday. I cried for days after losing him and still clung to the present he gave me on my sixth birthday.Shortly after Uncle Jesse passed away, we moved to a smaller house in a new town. I spent a lot of time alone because Mom was always working. One summer, the beginning of a miracle happened when my mom met a great and funny guy, David. They got married and now I gained two more brothers. When I look back on it now, I have come a long way form being a sad and lonely girl to being the person I am today- part of a big, happy family. I cant imagine what my life would have been like if Aunt Bonnie hadnt taken me in. She promised to love me and take care of me- no matter what happened- and she has done exactly that . I have learned about strength, dedication and love. She has been there to hold me when Im sick, to help me with my homework, to support me when I need her. In return, I love her more than she has ever known. Without her in my life, I would have been a motherless child, but because of her I have a great family and the best mom in the world.25Why was the author sent to live with her relatives?ABecause her dad treated her badly.BBecause her relatives offered to help her.CBecause her dad didnt want to raise her.DBecause her family was too poor to keep her.26We can infer from the passage that AAunt Bonnie had been teaching the author at homeBAunt Bonnie was a strong, dedicated and loving motherCThe family could hardly make ends meet after Uncle Jesse diedDDavid, the new father, was wealthy enough to support the family27Which of the following can be the best title of the passage?AMy Unusual ChildhoodBA Motherless ChildCMy New Dad and MomDThank You, My Mom!CWhile elephants born without tusks (长牙)are not unheard of,they normally account for just 2 to 6 percent of the population. However, that is not the case at Mozambiques Gorongosa National Park, where astonishingly 33 percent of female elephants born after the conflict ended in 1992 are tuskless. While that may appear to be just a coincidence, Joyce Poole, an elephant behavior expert, has another theory. The researcher thinks we may be witnessing unnatural evolution of the species due to the constant hunting of elephants for valuable ivory. Poole says before the countrys 15-year-long civil war, the 100,000-acre park was home to over 4,000 elephants. However, by the time the conflict ended in 1992, about 90 percent of them had been killed for ivory to help finance weapons and food for the soldiers. Among the less than 200 survivors, over 50 percent of adult females had no tusks. Therefore, it isnot surprising that the parks tuskless elephant population has grown greatly. This is not the first time researchers have observed a great change in the population of elephants. At Zambias South Luangwa National Park and Upper Lupande Game Management Area, where elephants were heavily hunted in the 1970s and 1980s, 35% of elephants 25 years or older elephants and 13% of those younger than 25 are now without tusks. A 2020 study published in the African Journal of Ecology found that the proportion of tuskless females at the Ruaha National Park in Tanzania went from 10.5 percent in 1969 to almost 40 percent in 1989, largely due to illegal hunting for ivory. The recent ban on ivories in both the US and China should help get rid of, or at least reduce, elephant hunting. However, scientists are not sure how long it will take for elephants with a higher rate of tuskless females, to change the trend.28. What is the probable cause of the phenomenon mentioned in Paragraph 1 ?A. Constant farming.B. Illegal hunting.C. A pure coincidence.D. Natural evolution.29. Why did people kill so many elephants during the civil war in Mozambique?A. To make ivory products.B. To develop new weapons.C.To get funds by selling ivory. D. To provide food for local people.30. What does the author want to show in Paragraph 3?A. The number of elephants killed since 1969.B.The studies concerning tuskless elephants.C. The serious result of illegal hunting for ivory.D. The ways to deal with tuskless elephants.31. What does the underlined phrase “the trend” in the last paragraph refer to?A.Elephants facing greater danger.B.More female elephants being tuskless.C.Fewer female elephants staying alive.D.Elephants growing more slowly.DWith golden sunshine and a gentle breeze, autumn is the most beautiful season in the year. This is a great time to go outside and have fun. Go to a valley to see red maple trees, go and pick fruit in an orchard or find an open field to fly your kite in.However, for many high school students, these great activities may be just a dream. With plenty of work to do, they spend all their hours indoors, struggling for a high mark in their exams. Of course, study is one of the most important things for teenagers. But life is definitely much more than that.Sometimes we spend so much time studying that we forget how to make life wonderful. In doing so, we lose the real purpose of lifeto be a valuable and happy person. To enjoy just how great it is to be alive, we have to put down our books and pens and look around us.Students, take some exercise to improve your health, talk with your parents and friends for understanding and walk around outside to refresh your body and mind.Going out and enjoying the beautiful countryside often helps our creativity in our work.Chinese craftsman, Lu Ban, created a saw to help woodworkers. But if he hadnt walked outside, he would not have been inspired by a kind of toothed grass. We could also suppose if Newton hadnt rested under that apple tree, then he wouldnt have been hit by an apple, and his classic theories would not have come out.Going out is not only a break from hard work, but a chance to add to life experience. So come on, give your brain a good rest. Step out of the books and get your bag ready for an autumn outing. We are sure you will get much more than knowledge from the exciting journey.32In which paragraph does the writer make a summary about his opinion?AParagraph 1.BParagraph 2. CParagraph 4. DParagraph 5.33Why is going out a dream for many high school students?AThey are unhappy to do so.BTheir parents dont allow them to do so.CThey have too much work to do for getting high marks in the exams.DThey think study is the most important thing for them.34The passage is developed mainly by _.Amaking predictionsBdescribing the beautiful scenery in Autumn Creasoning and giving examplesDpointing out the present situation of high school students35What message can you get from the passage?ANature is power.BGoing out can make high school students get more.CThe author isnt happy with our education at all.DAll work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.第二节 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。Why Not Build A DIY Ebike?Buying an electric bicycle is a great way to get gong quickly and enjoy the immediate satisfaction of getting around on an ebike. _36_ Here are some of the best reasons.Save money with a DIY ebike.
