As you drink you hear your teacher say those frightening words: “Could I see you for a moment in the classroom, please?”You can almost feel your blood pressure rise as you walk to your English class. Shes always picking on you. What can it be this time? You think of the test you did last Friday. Now your mind is racing, your heart is pounding, and your forehead is pouring with sweat. In situations like this you will often feel like running away but you may also feel like hitting someone on the nose.Your teacher asks you to go into the class. “Here it comes,” you think. But what you hear is: “Well done. Your test was excellent.” You can hardly believe your ears. Our fight or flight response is designed to protect us from tigers that would have once hidden in the woods around us, threatening our survival. At times when our survival is threatened, there is no greater response to have on our side. When activated, the response causes stress hormones to pump through our body. When we face very real dangers to our survival, it is invaluable. However, few of the “tigers” we face in our lives cause a serious physical threat to our existence. They cause us no end of stress, triggering(引发) the full activation of our fight or flight response. They tend to cause us to overreact to the situation in a counterproductive(事与愿违的)way. It is counterproductive to hit someone (the fight response) or run away (the flight response).By recognizing the symptoms, we can begin to take steps to handle the stress overload. By learning to recognize the signals of fight or flight activation, we can avoid reacting excessively(过度地) to events and fears that are not life threatening. In doing so, we use this extra energy to help ourselves, borrowing the beneficial effects in order to change our emotional environment and deal productively with our fears, thoughts and potential dangers.28. You feel nervous when walking to the classroom because _.A. you broke the school rules. B. you failed the test last Friday.C. your teacher spoke to you loudly. D. your teacher always criticizes you.29. What is Paragraph 4 mainly about?A. The power of our fight or flight response.B. How our fight or flight response works.C. The benefits of our fight or flight response.D. How we control our fight or flight response.30. The underlined word “They” in Paragraph 5 probably refers to _.A. fierce tigers B. real dangersC. dangers we face D. serious physical threats31. A good understanding of our fight or flight response can help us _.A. get rid of unnecessary stress B. face real dangers bravelyC. find potential dangers D. take threats seriouslyDThere is a breakthrough in building aircrafts. Bendable wings covered with overlapping(部分重叠) pieces resembling fish sizes could be used to build swifter, fuel-efficient aircraft, a new study finds.Nowadays, conventional aircrafts typically rely on ailerons(副翼) to help control the way the planes tip as they fly. However, when the Wright brothers flew the first airplane, Flyer 1, over a century ago, they used no ailerons but wires and pulleys that twisted the wood-and- canvas wings, to control the plane.Scientists have long sought to develop aircrafts that can alter their wings during flight just as birds can. However, most previous attempts have failed because they relied on heavy mechanical control structures within the wings. These structures were also complex and unreliable, said Neil Gershenfeld, a physicist and director of the Center for Bits and Atoms at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).The new wing consists of a system of tiny, strong, lightweight modules. The shape of the wing can be changed uniformly along its length using two small motors, which apply a twisting pressure to each wingtip. These wings are covered in skins of overlapping strips of flexible material resembling fish sizes. These strips move across each other as the wings alter, providing a smooth outer surface, the researchers explained.Wind-tunnel tests of these wings showed that they at least matched the aerodynamic properties of conventional wings, at about one-tenth the weight. Initial tests using remotely piloted aircrafts made with these wings have shown great promise, said Benjamin Jenett, a graduate student at the Center for Bits and Atoms at MIT.The new modular structures the scientists developed could be manufactured quickly in mass quantities and then installed by teams of small robots. These modular structures also can be disassembled more easily, making repairs simpler.“Still, the first aircraft built using this strategy will not be a passenger jet,” Gershenfeld said. “Instead, the technology will likely first be tested on unmanned aircraft, leading to drones(无人机) that can fly for a long time, to help deliver internet access or medicine to remote villages and do some rescue works.”32. Why did most previous aircrafts fail to fly like birds?A. The previous wings were complicated and weighed a lot.B. The previous aircraft relied on ailerons to control directions.C. There were few scientists to do research on the lighter wings.D. There was little fuel in the aircrafts to make them fly in the air.33. What is the fourth paragraph mainly about?A. The shape of the new wings.B. The result of the tested wings.C. The function of the small motors.D. The working principle of the new wings.34. Which of the following can replace the underlined word “disassembled” in Paragraph 6?A. put away B. taken apart C. invented D. analyzed35. What will the drones made by the new wings be firstly used to do?A. Carry passengers. B. Save people in danger.C. Test planes. D.
