To create means “to bring into being, to cause to exist” something each of us dose daily. We are creative whenever we look at or think about something in a new way. First this involves an awareness of our surroundings. It means using all of our sense to become aware of our world. This may be as simple as being aware of color and texture, as well as taste, when we plan a meal. Above all, it is the ability to notice things that others might miss.A second part of creativity is an ability to see relationships among things. If we believe the expression, “There is nothing new under the sun,” the creativity is remaking or recombining the old in new ways. For example, we might do this by finding a more effective way to study or a better way to arrange our furniture, or we might make a new combination of camera lenses and filter to create an unusual photograph.A third of creativity is the courage and drive to make use of our new results. To think up a new concept is one thing, to put the idea to work is another. These three parts of creativity are involved in all the great works of genius, but they are also involved in many of our day-to-day activities.36Which of the following activities is NOT a creative one according to the passage?ATo prepare for a meal.BTo arrange the furniture in a peculiar way.CTo buy some books from a bookstore.DTo “write” a letter with the computer.37“There is nothing new under the sun” really implies that .Awe can seldom create new thingsBa new thing is only a taleCa new thing can only be created at the basis of original thingsDwe can hardly see really new things in the world38What does the author think about the relationship between a new thought and its being put into practice?AIts more difficult to create a new thought than to apply it in practice.BTo find a new thought will definitely lead to the production of a new thing.COne may come up with a new thought, but can not put it into practice.DA man with an excellent ability of practice can easily become an inventor.39The best title title for this passage is .AHow to Cultivate Ones CreativityBWhat is CreativityCImportance of CreativityDCreativity, Not a Faraway ThingBAs US forces battled their way toward Baghdad, Asian leaders from the worlds of business, politics and the arts responded differently to the question: what do you think of America now? Malaysias Prime Minister Mohammad was the most high-profiled(姿态)regional critic of the US invasion of Iraq. Other government leaders in Asia were less blunt(生硬的)in public. Key allies such as Japan, South Korea and Australia voiced support for the US and British action despite large opposition at home.On the economic front, analysts fear that a long campaign could damage the regions economies and raise oil price to dangerously high levels.A long war could be particularly severe for governments of Muslim countries in south Asia. In Pakistan, the government is reluctant to criticize the US despite massive public sympathy for Iraq. Some worry that the war “will only result in more al-Qaeda(基地组织)recruits”.Countries like Indonesia, YC Malaysia and Pakistan all recently refused to expel(驱逐)Iraqi diplomats at Washingtons demand, while Thailand and the Philippines did as requested. Pyongyang (Capital of Korea) clearly worried that it is next on the US hit list.40Which of the four titles below is the closest to the topic?AWars other bad effects.BWars results.CWars support.DWars other voices.41The following countries are the brotherhood with America to attack Iraq except .AJapanBSouth KoreaCMalaysiaDAustralia42The underlined word “reluctant” used in the third paragraph of the text refers to .Aeager BreadyCanxious Dunwilling43It can be NOT stated but may be inferred from the text that .Athe public sympathy for Iraq in PakistanBPakistan will expel Iraq diplomatsCThailand accepted Americas demand to expel Iraq diplomatsDNorth Korea is closed watching America possibly to attackCFIRE INSTRUCTIONS THE PERSON DISCOVERING A FIRE WILL:1OPERATE THE NEAREST FIRE ALARM.(This will cause the Alarm Bell(警铃)to ring. Judy Cameron, a scientist at Oregon Health and Science University, studies brain development. According to her research, it seems that exercise can make blood vessels(管), including those in the brain, stronger and more fully developed. Dr. Cameron claims this allows people who exercise to concentrate better. As she says, “While we already know that exercise is good for the heart, exercise can really cause physical changes in the brain.”The effects of exercise on brain development can even be seen in babies. Babies who do activities that require a lot of movement and physical activity show greater brain development than babies who are less physically active. With babies, even a little movement can show big results. Margaret Barnes, a pediatrician(儿科医生), believes in the importance of exercise. She thinks that many learning disabilities that children have in elementary school or high school can be traced back to a lack of movement as babies. “Babies need movement that stimulates their five senses. They need to establish a connection between motion and memory. In this way, as they get older, children will begin to associate physical activity with higher learning,” says Margaret.Older people can beef up their brains as well. Come 11 University studied a group of seniors ranging in age from seventy to seventy-nine. Their study showed a short-term memory increase of up to 40 percent after exercising just three hours a week. The exercise does not have to be very difficult, but it does have to increase the heart rate. Also, just like the motion for infants(婴儿), exercise for older people should involve some complexity. Learning some new skills or motions, such as with yoga or tai-chi, helps to open up memory paths in the brain that may not have been used for a long time. For most, people, any type of physical activity that increases the heart rate is helpful. The main goal is to increase the brains flow of blood. And your brain can benefit from as little as two to three hours of exercise a week.48What is the main idea of this reading?AHow to exerciseBHow exercise helps the brainCHow to get good scores on a testDHow the brain can change49According to the reading, what is the connection between exercise and brain development?AExercise makes us stupid.BThe brain needs special mental exercise.CThe more exercise, the bigger the brain.DPhysical exercise helps us think better.50The minimum amount of exercise required to gain any benefit is .Athree hours per weekB40 hours per weekCthree hours per dayD40 hours per month51Why is yoga recommended for seniors?AIt is easy on joints.BIt can be done in groups.CIt does not increase the heart rate.DIt includes learning new motions.EThe alarming(使人惊动的)rate of child suicide in Hong Kong, raising levels of stress and anxiety among young people, increasing conflicts between children and teachers, and childrens complaints that their parents do not understand their problems-all point to a drop in “emotional quotient(情商)”(EQ),the ability to handle relationships.EQ is defined as the ability to deal with oneself and others effectively. High EQ, psychologists say, is easy to spot. Some of the greatest humanitarian(人道主义的)leaders have high EQ, along with successful managers and inspirational and respected teachers. The problem is not how to spot high EQ but to improve on low EQ so society as a whole can benefit. In the United States, declining EQ among young people is seen as one of the factors behind rising young peoples crime because youths fail to understand others feelingone of the key components of EQ. While the situation in Hong Kong is not so bad, there are warning signs levels of anxiety among youth may become critical. Declining EQ among Hong Kong teenagers has been acknowledged by several studies including a key study by the education concern group, the Learning-Teacher Association, which found a high degree of anxiety among students over the future and also that young people lacked confidence in dealing with problems. Parents and teachers will also need to develop their own EQ skills in order to deal with them effectively.Daniel Goleman, brought attention to the concept of EQ. He puts forwards the theory that high EQ is as important as intelligence in determining success in life. But many Asian psychologists say EQ should not be dismissed outright as an American fad. “Chinese and Western societies both value EQ, whether they realize it or not,” says Dr. Wu Jing-yi, professor psychology at Taiwans National Chengchi university. “Both Chinese and. Western societies believe you should be confident, but not over-confident, you must express feeling towards others effectively, be able to solve problems independently and creatively.” Dr. Wu said. “Both Chinese and people in the west need to deal with people, have successful careers and lead a happy life.”Dr. Goleman cites(引用)a number of basic elements of high EQ: first, awareness of your feelings as you experience them which is very important to making good decisions in life. Second, feeling or awareness of what others are feeling. “Ninety percent of emotional information is expressed non-verbally and people vary in their ability to pick it up,” Dr. Goleman says in his book.Dr. Goleman argues that without high EQ even highly educated, highly Intelligent people will not find success in life. Or those with low EQ, even though they may be brilliant, tend to lack feeling and impulse control. They fail easily, and they are easily intolerant and often aggressive in interpersonal relations. Some educational psychologists believe work on EQ may be important in Hong Kong with its high rate of suicide among school children. EQ test may be able to help predict those most at risk. Those least able to deal with their own emotions or unable to deal with others, including parents and teachers.52According to the passage, the alarming rate of child suicide in Hong Kong has been said to be due to .Athe rising levels of stress and anxiety among young people.Bincreasing conflict between children and teachers.Cthe inability of handling relationships.Dparents
