It is very useful because it can help you make yourself easily understood. When you are talking with others, you are not just using words, but also using expressions and gestures. For example, waving ones hand is to say Good-bye. A smile and handshake show welcome, and clapping hands means congratulations. The gestures are accepted both by Chinese and foreigners as having the same meanings. Different countries have different cultures. For example Arab men often greet by kissing on both cheeks. In Japan men greet by bowing .In the Unite States, people shake hands to show their greeting. The gesture of putting a hand on a person neck is different for Chinese and Americans. For Chinese, it is to say someone will be killed. For Americans, it shows Im full” .In Thailand, If you want to signal a person to come near, you should move the fingers back and forth with your palm down. But in the United States, you ask someone to come by holding the palm up and moving the fingers towards your body. When offering or accepting a gift, Chinese people use both hands to show respect. In Britain or America, one hand is used( either hand). If the gift is too large or heavy, then both hands are. In Muslim countries, people only use the right hand, or both hands, never the left hand alone which is considered unclean. In Spain, Germany and Brazil, the OK sign is considered rude. If you go shopping in Japan, it means youd like your change in coins instead of bills. In France, making the OK sign means you think something is worthless. When you use a foreign language, it is very important to know the meanings of gestures and movement
