You freeze in horror and burn with shame. What to do? Here are four common email accidents, and how to recover.Clicking “send” too soonDont waste your time trying to find out if the receivers has read it yet. Write another email as swiftly as you can and send it with a brief explaining that this is the correct version and the previous version should be ignored.Writing the wrong timeThe sooner you notice, the better. Respond quickly and briefly, apologizing for your mistake. Keep the tone measured: dont handle it too lightly, as people can be offended, especially if your error suggests a misunderstanding of their culture(i.e. incorrect ordering of Chinese names).Clicking “reply all” unintentionallyYou accidentally reveal to the entire company what menu choices you would prefer at the staff Christmas dinner, or what holiday youd like to take. In this instance, the best solution is to send a quick, light-hearted apology to explain your awkwardness. But it can quickly rise to something worse, when everyone starts hitting “reply all” to join in a long and unpleasant conversation. In this instance, step away from your keyboard to allow everyone to calm down.Sending an offensive message to its subjectThe most awkward email mistake is usually committed in anger. You write an unkind message about someone, intending to send it to a friend, but accidentally send it to the person youre discussing. In that case, ask to speak in person as soon as possible and say sorry. Explain your frustrations calmly and sensiblysee it as an opportunity to clear up any difficulties you may have with this person.21What should you do when an unpleasant conversation is started by your “reply all” email?AAvoid further involvement. BTry offering other choices.CMeet other staff members. DMake a light-hearted apology.22How should you deal with the problem caused by an offensive email?ABy promising not to offend the receiver again. BBy seeking support from the receivers friends.CBy asking the receiver to control his anger. DBy talking to the receiver face to face.23What is the passage mainly about?ADefining email errors. BHandling email accidents.CReducing email mistakes. DImproving email writing.BPerhaps you think you could easily add to your happiness with more money. Strange as it may seem, if youre unsatisfied, the issue is not a lack of means to meet your desires but a lack of desiresnot that you cannot satisfy your tastes but that you dont have enough tastes.Real riches consist of well-developed and hearty capacities to enjoy life. Most people are already swamped with things. They eat, wear, go and talk too much. They live in too big a house with too many rooms, yet their house of life is a hut.Your house of life ought to be a mansion (豪宅) , a royal palace. Every new taste, every additional interest, every fresh enthusiasm adds a room. Here are several rooms your house of life should have.Art should be a desire for you to develop simply because the world is full of beautiful things. If you only understood how to enjoy them and feed your spirit on them, they would make you as happy as to find plenty of hamburgers and eggs when youre hungry.Literature, classic literature, is a beautiful, richly furnished room where you might find many an hour of rest and refreshment. To gain that love would go toward making you a rich person, for a rich person is not someone who has a library but who likes a library.Music like Mozarts and Bachs shouldnt be absent. Real riches are of the spirit. And when youve brought that spirit up to where classical music feeds it and makes you a little drunk, you have increased your thrills and bettered them. And life is a matter of thrills.Sports, without which you remain poor, mean a lot in life. No matter who you are, you would be more human, and your house of life would be better supported against the bad days, if you could, and did, played a bit.Whatever rooms you might add to your house of life, the secret of enjoying life is to keep adding.24The author intends to tell us that_.Atrue happiness comes from spiritual richesBbig houses are peoples most valued possessionsCbig houses can in a sense bring richness of lifeDtrue happiness lies in achieving wealth by fair means25The underlined sentence in the second paragraph probably implies that_.Ahowever materially rich, they never seem to be satisfiedBhowever materially rich, they remain spiritually poorCthough their house is big, they prefer a simple lifeDthough their house is big, it seems to be a cage26It can be learned from the passage that _.Amore money brings more happiness Bart is needed to make your house beautifulCliterature can enrich your spiritual life Dsports contribute mainly to your physical fitness27What would be the best title for the passage?AInterest and Enthusiasm BSecret of WealthCRest and Refreshment DHouse of LifeCTwo things changed my life: my mother and a white plastic bike basket. I have thought long and hard about it and its true. I would be a different person if my mom hadnt turned a silly bicycle accessory into a life lesson I carry with me today. My mother and father were united in their way of raising children, but it mostly fell to my mother to actually carry it out. Looking back, I honestly dont know how she did it. Managing the family budget must have been a very hard task, but she made it look effortless. If we complained about not having what another kid did, wed hear something like, “I dont care what so-and-so got for his birthday, you are not getting a TV in your room/a car for your birthday/a lavish sweet-16 party.” We had to earn our allowance by doing chores around the house. I can still remember how long it took to polish the legs of our coffee table. My brothers can no doubt remember hours spent cleaning the house. Like the two little girls growing up at the White House, we made our own beds (no one left the house until that was done)and picked up after ourselves. We had to keep track of our belongings, and if something was lost, it was not replaced. It was summer and, one day, my mother drove me to the bike shop to get a tire fixedand there it was in the window. White, shiny, plastic and decorated with flowers, the basket winked at me and I knewI knew I had to have it.“Its beautiful,” my mother said when I pointed it out to her, “What a neat basket.”I tried to hold off at first, I played it cool for a short while. But then I guess I couldnt stand it any longer: “Mom, please can I please, please get it? Ill do extra chores for as long as you say. Ill do anything, but I need that basket, I love that basket. Please, Mom. Please?”I was desperate.“You know,” she said, gently rubbing my back while we both stared at what I believed was the coolest thing ever, “If you save up you could buy this yourself.”“By the time I make enough itll be gone!”“Maybe Roger here could hold it for you,” she smiled at Roger, the bike guy.“He cant hold it for that long, Mom. Someone else will buy it .Please, Mom, Please?”“There might be another way,” she said. And so our paying plan unfolded. My mother bought the beautiful basket and put it safely in some hiding place I couldnt find. Each week I eagerly counted my growing savings increased by extra work here and there (washing the car, helping my mother make dinner, delivering or collecting things on my bike that already looked naked without the basket in front). And then, weeks later, I counted, re-counted and jumped for joy. Oh, happy day ! I made it! I finally had the exact amount wed agreed upon.Days later the unthinkable happened. A neighborhood girl Id played with millions of times appeared with the exact same basket fixed to her shiny, new bike that already had all the bells and whistles. I rode hard and fast home to tell my mother about this disaster. This horrible turn of events. And then came the lesson Ive taken with me through my life: “Honey, Your basket is extra-special,” Mom said, gently wiping away my hot tears.“Your basket is special because you paid for it yourself.”28What can we learn from the first two paragraphs?AThe mother raised her children in an unusual way.BThe author came from a well-off family.CThe children enjoyed doing housework.DThe children were fond of the US presidents daughters.29By using “naked” (Paragraph 12),the author seems to stress that the basket was _.Asomething she could afford Bsomething important to herCsomething impossible to get Dsomething she could do without30To the author, it seemed to be a horrible turn of events that _ .Asomething spoiled her paying plan Bthe basket cost more than she had savedCa neighborhood girl had bought a new bike Dsomeone else had got a basket of the same kind31What is the life lesson the author learned from her mother?ASave money for a rainy day. BEarn your bread with your sweat.CGood advice is beyond all price. DGod helps those who help themselves.DMeasles(麻疹), which once killed 450 children each year and disabled even more, was nearly wiped out in the United States 14 years ago by the universal use of the MMR vaccine. But the disease is making a comeback, caused by a growing anti-vaccine movement and misinformation that is spreading quickly. Already this year, 115 measles cases have been reported in the USA, compared with 189 for all of last year. The numbers might sound small, but they are the leading edge of a dangerous trend. When vaccination rates are very high, as they still are in the nation as a whole, everyone is protected. This is called “herd immunity”, which protects the people who get hurt easily, including those who cant be vaccinated for medical reasons, babies too young to get vaccinated and people on whom the vaccine doesnt work. But herd immunity works only when nearly the whole herd joins in. When some refuse vaccination and seek a free ride, immunity breaks down and everyone is in even bigger danger.Thats exactly what is happening in small neighborhoods around the country from Orange County, California, where 22 measles cases were reported this month, to Brooklyn, N.Y., where a 17-year-old caused an outbreak last year. The resistance to vaccine has continued for decades, and it is driven by a real but very small risk. Those who refuse to take that risk selfishly make others suffer.Making things worse are state laws that make it too easy to opt out(决定不参加) of what are supposed to be required vaccines for all children entering kindergarten. Seventeen states allow parents to get an exemption, sometimes just by signing a paper saying they personally object to a vaccine. Now, several states are moving to tighten laws by adding new regulations for opting out. But no one does enough to limit exemptions.Parents ought to be able to opt out only for limited medical or religious reasons. But personal opinions? Not good enough. Everyone enjoys the life-saving benefits vaccines provide, but theyll exist only as long as everyone shares in the risks.32The first two paragraphs suggest that _.Aa small number of measles cases can start a dangerous trendBanti-vaccine movement has its medical reasonsCthe outbreak of measles attracts the public attentionDinformation about measles spreads quickly33Herd immunity works well when _.Aexemptions are allowed Bthe whole neighborhood is involved inCseveral vaccines are used together Dnew regulations are added to the state laws34What is the main reason for the comeback of measles?AThe overuse of vaccine. BThe lack of medical care.CThe features of measles itself. DThe vaccine opt-outs of some people.35What is the purpose of the passage?ATo introduce the idea of exemption. BTo discuss methods to cure measles.CTo stress the importance of vaccination. DTo appeal for equal rights in medical treatment.第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。The Science of Risk-SeekingSometimes we decide that a little unnecessary danger is worth it because when we weigh the risk and the reward, the risk seems worth taking. 36 Some of us enjoy activities that would surprise and scare the rest of us. Why? Experts say it may have to do with how our brains work? The reason why any of us take any risks al all might have to do with early humans. Risk-takers were better at hunting, fighting, or exploring. 37 As the quality of risk-taking was passed from one generation to the next, humans ended up with a sense of adventure and a tolerance for risk.So why arent we all jumping out of airplanes then? Well, even 200,000 years ago, too much risk-taking could get one killed. A few daring survived, though, along with a few stay-in-the-cave types. As a result, humans developed a range of character types that still exists today. So maybe you love car racing, or maybe you hate it. 38No matter where you are on the risk-seeking range, scientists say that your willingness to take risks increases during your teenage years. 39 To help you do that, your brain increases your hunger for new experiences. New experiences often mean taking some risks, so your brain raises your tolerance for risk as well.40 For the risk-seekers, a part of the brain related to pleasure becomes active, while for the rest of us, a part of the brain related to fear becomes active. As experts continue to study the science of risk-seeking, well continue to hit the mountains, the waves or the shallow end of the pool.A. Thus, these well-equipped people survived because they were the fittest.B. However, we are not all using the same reference standard to weigh risks and rewards.C. Being better at those things meant a greater chance of survival.D. It all depends on your character.E. New brain research suggests our brains work differently when we face a nervous situation.F. Those are the risks you should jump to take.G. This is when you start to move away from your family and into the bigger world. One night, when I was eight , my mother gently asked me a question I would never forget. “Sw
