It sounds crazy, but these computer-driven driverless cars will soon be filling roads near you. Companies like Google and Tesla have been designing and testing these cars, and the technology is there-they just need to see if theyre value for money ,work out insurance(保险)issues, and run final tests to check they can run alongside human-driven cars on the road. So how do they work? The cars have sensors all around which can detect other cars and obstacles in the road. Sensors on the wheels also help when parking, so the car knows how far it is from the outside of the road or other parked cars. Road signs are read by cameras and satellite navigation systems are used so the car knows how to get to your destination. All you have to do is type in the address! Finally, a central computer system takes in all the information it receives from the sensors and cameras and processes this to work out when to speed up, brake and go.Sound like your idea of heaven? Sitting back, looking out of the windows and even watching a film or reading a book while driving would be possible with this new technology. You wouldnt have to worry about remembering directions to where youre going. In addition, computers are generally more efficient drivers than humans. They would also drive more safely than people-they are not influenced by music or friends, they would obey the speed limit and they have quicker reaction times in case of an emergency. However, there are many disadvantages of driverless cars. Computers would have difficulties making ethical(伦理学的)decisions ; if a child ran into the road , would the computer choose to hit the child or change the direction immediately and potentially kill the cars passengers? Moreover, I personally find driving fun-Id miss never being behind the wheel myself. There would also be many legal decisions to be made-should children, or drunk people, be allowed in a driverless car by themselves? Or would there need to be a responsible adult with a driving licence in the car at all times?Although being driven around by a machine would perhaps mean that no one needs a driving licence, saving money for everyone, many people would be put out of a job when driverless cars appear. Bus, taxi and train drivers as well as driving instructors would be made unnecessary.Im not convinced Id want a driverless car-but its only a matter of time before theyll become more affordable and commonplace on our roads.26 . What does the second paragraph mainly tell us?AHow driverless cars work.BHow a central computer system runs.CWays in which the sensors help driverless cars.DThe helpful system that driverless cars have.27 . What can we know from the passage?AThe writer is eager to have a driverless car.BSome problems wont be solved in the future.CEngineers are active in improving driverless cars.DMore factors should be considered before driverless cars go on roads.28 . I was going to meet an old university friend I hadnt seen for years. My train was running a little late, but that was no big problem I could text him to tell him. He would understand. But . where was my mobile phone? I had that familiar terrible feeling. Yes, Id forgotten to take it with me when I left home.No mobile phone. Im sure Im not alone in feeling worried when I dont have my phone with me. In fact, I know Im not alone: 66% of us experience “nomophobia”, the fear of being without ones mobile phones. Thats according to a study of a survey in the UK about their relationship with mobile phones. It says we check our mobile phones 34 times a day, and women are more “nomophobia” than men. 77% of them say they are unable to be apart (分开) from their phones for more than a few minutes. Its funny to think that around 30 years ago the only people with mobile phones would be business people carrying their large “bricks (砖头)”. Of course, these days, mobile phones are everywhere. And when there are more phones than people in the world, maybe its time to ask yourself, “Are you in control of your phone, or does your phone control you?”So, what happened to my university friend? When I arrived a few minutes late he just laughed and said, “You havent changed at allstill always late!” We had a great afternoon, full of jokes and stories, and I forgot about my phone. Not having it with me felt strangely free. Maybe Ill leave it at home again next time.30 . It is a common idea that children today know about computers and have a good knowledge of using them in all sides of their lives. We decided to try to find out if this was true.We asked thirty young people between 14 and 18. All the children said they had computers at home. We asked them how much time they usually spend on their computers in a week, but we wondered what they used their computers for.The average(平均的) time spend on a computer in a week was 12 hours, with the highest user about 30 hours and the lowest only 5 hours. There were no differences between boys and girls. All the children said they usually used their computers to play games. Fourteen told us they did some word-processing at home, but not very much. Only three of them said that computers helped them with their studies, and nine people told us that they kept addresses and telephone numbers on their computers, or used them as diaries. Only four people said they were learning to make programs, and nobody looked up databases(数据库). None of the people used their computers for any other use. The diagram below gives all the results one by one.The results show that computer use is quite high among 14-18 year-old children. They also show quite clearly that computers are used by most people as_game machines. The only other great uses are for word-processing and keeping address lists. It seems to us that, computers are common in the homes of young people, they havent become useful in everyday life.40 . How many young people were asked in the report?A14.B18.C30.D12.41 .
