To cope with the situation, various actions, including the liberalization of the power market, have

6、been taken. Under these circumstances, demand for generators has grown suddenly. As a generator manufacture, GE tried to meet the demand, but it was necessary to increase its production capability.糨穿刹佐戊悸闵绵诋摧定砗逍(1) The first goal is to reduce man-and machine-hour requirement (increasing productivity

For example, our gen

11、erator system composed of generators manufactured at our Ohta Factory and diesel engines have an output range of 20 to 1874 KVA. These generator systems are highly acclaimed not only as general-purpose backup generator systems, but also as emergency diesel power generator systems. They are in use ma

12、ny parts of the word, including varies building in Japan and the Showa station in America in the extremely cold region.鞭轹缩滏骢韩少喱寝菜抟嗵纣To manufacture these products, our factory is equipped with two 100-ton cranes, large machine tools including 10-meter and 7-meter lathes, and a cleanroom in which roto

I was really impressed with the high accuracy and quality of large generator parts machined in the factory. I also had an opportunity to see many generators be

Now, let me explain about rotor shafts, the workpiece to be machined on our new machine tool, taking a bipolar, air-cooled, turbine generator as an example.仫蹬礼心素酣卓芳孰砑逞镦桡Unlike the b

15、ackup/emergency generators I have just mentioned, these generators consist of large generators manufactured at Ohta Factory which are driven by steam or gas turbines. These generators are widely used for industrial and power generation applications. Standard generating capacity is 75000 KVA or less.

16、扎遨翊兴泖籀庶鞒苇俯唛汔阴The power-generating part of the generator consists of a stator, a rotor and a rotor bearing. The rotor is an assembly of an iron core and shaft. Major steps in the manufacturing process are (1) turning, (2) slot milling, drilling and tapping (milling), (3) grinding the bearings, (4)fitting in the coils, and (5) balancing (finish t

19、t on special-purpose machines. Why, then, did you choose our five-face machining system?镁薹羌廓懈吝胫燎鲫嫡汜摹裾Aida: If we think only of the slot milling of rotor shafts, we could go with a planer type machine tool or with a lathe-based horizontal machine equipped with a side cutter spindle mounted on the car

20、riage. However, with a planer type machine, we cant expect high machining efficiency. And we thought that these types of machines could not meet our requirements I mentioned at the outset. The reason is this. The rotor shaft has a total of 42 deep slots called coil slots and vent slot. The deepest s

21、lots are 27mm wide and about 140mm deep. The total length of all slots including shallow ones is 105 m per rotor. Deep slot milling is the most time-consuming operation in the machining process, and we used to machine these deep slots in three passes per slot, using a plano-miller equipped with a si

22、de cutter.沈镲苔越猎暗伯欧沪陔就俊皈So we decided to use a German-made side cutter that can rough and finish a deep slot in a single pass. To use this cutter, however, we needed a special-purpose machine tool rigid enough to endure heavy cuts.筋房匕瑭虔燹彰馁卤辊蛑蛇垄Shimada: You mentioned “heavy cuts.” How big is the cutti

23、ng force applied to that side cutter?赞忱叽砻豪鸳眠普灾划公浑蔷Aida: About 20KN according to the cutting tool manufacturers calculation. This cutting force is applied to the cutting edge of the side cutter that is 700 mm in diameter. Conventional machine tools just cant handle that much force. In order to reduce

24、 the number of tool passes from three to one, it is necessary to increase the metal removal rate by a factor of three with a force three times as dig as the cutting conditions.庾瞵扣噫谮记缢国芍箧赕虾聱In addition, deep slot milling was not the only goal we wanted to achieve. Reduction of lead time was our anoth

25、er consideration. Milling of the rotor shaft involves the machining. Milling of the rotor shaft involves the machining of many features such as deep slots, key slots and inclined holes. So, each workpiece had to be moved around from machine to Machine, and this was a bottleneck in the manufacturing

As the name indicates, a five-face machining system makes it possible to machine five faces of a workpiece in one stop.

27、By using an attachment, its also possible to perform special machining operations such as inclined drilling on a single machine without making setup changes. After deciding to go with SNK, what were your greatest expectations of us?嘲姑浃省巅动阒才叭惹逍脊徂 Aida: This is the first time Ive worked with SNK, but I had heard people say SNK was a very interesting manufacturer of machine tools for five-mace machining, with interesting a

29、pproaches such as using high-rigidity welded-steel construction for principal machine components. And that happened to be the most important for the machine tool wanted for our workpiece. We decided to go with SNK for three reasons:鞘耸担讧婶琥甥恹蔡费铠瓣蚴(1) a proven track record as a manufacturer of five-fac

Now, let me briefly describe the newly developed machine and summarize its features. We chose HF-5M with a 2.5-meter-wide table as the base m

32、achine. To meet the machining requirements you mentioned earlier, we increased the rigidity of the spindlehead and side cutter attachment (quadruple strength type). In the automatic attachment-spindlehead connection system, which is the most important part of the machine in order to increase rigidit

33、y, we used a clamping mechanism that is two classes stronger than the standard clamping mechanism. We made this modification eliminate chatter even during heavy cuts, minimize mechanical deformation due to cutting force, and meet a tolerance of 0/+0.05 mm in a single cutter pass. In developing the n

34、ew clamping device of the workpiece rotation system, we applied our workholding know-how accumulated over the years in designing large lathes in order to hold the workpiece firmly without causing machining vibration and without deforming the workpiece.谈挨汽鞫荇哪倦鲒滟翅烊展喹Aida: Since the time we inquired ab

35、out the kind of machine tool we had in mind, weve held many technical meetings. During that process, we worked together discussing and confirming each and every one of the details you have just mentioned to develop a machine we wanted. This has been an educating process to me in which I learned the
