、Introduction :/greenmetropolis.ca/life/1332Oil sands exploration activities including mining and upgrading have exposed boreal forests in the surrounding area to elevated levels of N and S depositions from emissions of NOx and SO2 Negative effects of these depositions include soil acidification, N s

、aturation, and eutrophication of water bodies Soil microbes in the boreal forest in northern Alberta have evolved in a relatively static ecosystem that is historically known to be N limitingSoil microbes are important because they exert control over the soil C and N cycles and influence the resilien

、ce of an ecosystemThere is limited information on how specific microbial groups are affected :/modernfarmer /2021/04/microbes-will-feed-world-real-farmers-grow-soil-crops/1.The overall diversity of microbial species will decrease after 9 years of simulated N and S deposition.2.The microbial species

、community composition will be altered after 9 years of simulated N and S deposition. HypothesisLocated approximately 100km southeast of the city of Fort McMurray, Alberta, CanadaThe dominating tree species are trembling aspen (Populus tremuloides) and white spruce (Picea glauca) and based on the Can

、adian system of soil classification the soils in the sites are classified as mainly Gray Luvisols N addition (30 kg N ha-1 yr-1 as NH4NO3), S addition ( 30 kg S ha-1 yr-1 as Na2SO4)Study Site Soil samples were taken at 0-15cm from three randomly selected points in each plotSoil DNA was extracted wit
