When I left school, I went straight out to work: I worked as a clerk in a small office. My father criticized
3、me, I remember, for not going on study ing while I had the cha nee, but I wan ted to earn myself some mon ey. Any way, that job did nt last long because I had to go into the army when I was twenty. I stayed in for five years. I dont know what good my uni versity course did because rm un employed now
4、. Oh, I know I got a job whe n I fini shed my uni versity course I was twenty-nine the n but it did nt last long. Well, I n ever really thought I would enjoy teachi ng very much. 8、nteresting here, in fact. Not so much the work itself, but the people Ive got to know and the friends Ive made, and Ive managed to do lots of things in my spare time too. Its a seaside town, so theres been quite a lot going on in the evenings you know, dancing, bowling, cinemas, and so on and on my
9、afternoons off Ive been doing quite a bit of sunbathing and swimming.Interviewer: Yes, I can see youve got quite brown. Youve obviously been having some reasonable weather here. Now what about Kevin here? Kevin, youve managed to get a fantastic suntan. How have you been spending your time here? Have
10、 you been doing a holiday job?Kevin: Yes, Ive been working down on the beach. I like an outdoor job. Ive been mostly hiring out deck chairs you know, going round collecting the money, but Ive also beenselling papers.Interviewer: And have you earned a lot of money?Kevin: Not a lot. I came here for a
11、cheap holiday more than anything else. My brothers the one whos been making money this summer.In terviewer: Has he bee n worki ng here in Bright on too?Kevin:No, hes in Italy working as a courier for a travel firm. 17、 would be to be the guy who sits in anuclear power station watching for it to start melting down, you know, the guys who sit there in front of those, thats just you know its a revolt ing thing any way but can you imagi ne the boredom and the responsibility at the same time, it would just be complete
18、ly terrible, Id hate that.3rd speaker: I think, I think the job I . I dont actually think I would be capable of doing it is to be work as the killi ng pers on in an abattoir. I met somebody once who erm was one of the people that went into erm er a chicke n battery and theyd spe nd all ni ght they were only worki ng ni ght shift and just kill chicke ns and and I ju
20、st could nt comprehe nd how they managed to do that and how they stayed sane. That would be the worst thing. I think itd be torture in more ways than one.My Idea of Heaven:1st speaker: On the other hand it would be wonderful to have a job where you are paid a lot of money and you could travel to dif
21、ferent countries someone like a television reporter or an archaeologistor an anthropologist. I mean those are the exciting kinds of jobs Id like to have . I cant pinpoint one but it has to be a job where I can travel and see different countries and have time to actually stay in those countries and l
22、earn a little about those countries and visit exciting places.2nd speaker: What would I like to do? Well I guess probably the best job in the world would be to play for the New York Mets. You cant beat that. you just cant beat that. third baseman for the New York Mets. The Mets? Oh theyre a baseball
23、 team. best baseball team in the world.3rd speaker: To choose another sort of job that I would really like. I would very much like to be a photographer, erm because it would give me an opportunity to work with people but at the same time be independent still and thats the thing that I always need. I
