Beyondadepthofaround2,900kilometers,agreatchangetakesplaceandthemantlegiveswaytothecore.Someseismicwavescannotpassthroughthecoreandothersarebentbyit.Fromthisandotherevidenc,egeologistsconcludethattheoutercoreisprobablyliqui,dwithasolidcenter.Itisalmostcertainlymadeofiron,mixedwithsmalleramountsofotherelementssuchasnickel.
