【文章梗概】因为工作太多,在感恩节我也需要工作。这使我很沮丧。祖父了解原因后,

邀请我一起在感恩节去餐馆吃饭。感恩节那天,我们一起观看游行,然后去CrackerBarrel

吃饭,我们交流故事,谈笑风生,我觉得这样也很好。我想起了小时候和祖父单独在一起的

快乐时光。之后的每一个感恩节,我都是和祖父一起。我很珍惜并且期望和他一起过感恩节。

In2008,1graduatedfromcollegeatthebeginningofarecession.AlthoughIgraduatedwith

honorsandhadplentyofsolidrecommendationsfromprofessorsaswellascollegiatework

experience,findingajobprovedtobeanear-impossibletask.Eventually,Istoppedfocusingmy

searchforjobsinmyfieldandbroadenedmyreachtootherentry-leveljobs.Thankfully,Ilanded

ajobafewmonthsaftergraduationwithagolfclubbackhome.Thepaywaslow,butitwasajob,

anditwouldprovideenoughtopaytherentandotherbills.

Asthemonthswentby,Iprovedmyselfahardworkerandwasrewardedwithmore

responsibility.Thisresponsibilityincludedtakingonmultipledutiesoutsidethescopeofmy

position,butunfortunatelyitdidnotcomewithmorepay.Duetothoseextraresponsibilities,it

wasnecessarythatIworkon-sitenotonlyafterhours,butalsomostholidays.Forthefirsttime,I

foundmyselffacingtherealitythatIwouldn'tbewithmyfamilyduringtheholidays.

WhenNovemberrolledaroundandIwasaskedtoworkonThanksgiving,Icouldn'thelp

feelingdeepdisappointment.

Then,aweekbeforeThanksgiving,Ireceivedacallfrommypatemalgrandfather.Hehad

decidedtostayintownandwantedtoknowwhyIwasn'twiththerestofthefamily.Iexplained

tohimthatmyjobrequiredthatIworkonThanksgiving,andthatmybenefitsdidn'tincludepaid

timeoff.Heasked,“WanttogotoThanksgivinglunchwithme?^^

Ithoughtaboutitfbraminute.Ididn'thavetobeatworkduringthelunchrush;itwasonly

fordinner.t6Sure,Tdlovethat.Doyouwanttocomeover,andI'llcook?^^

“No,"helaughed."Don'tgospendinganymoney.WeUIgoout.CrackerBarrelisopenfor

Thanksgiving.We'llgothere.^^

“Oh,okay.Thatsoundsfinethen.Thanks,Grandpa!v

IwasalittledismayedattheprospectofgoingtoarestaurantfbrThanksgiving.Afterall,I

wasusedtohome-cookedmealsfortheholidays.Iwasadecentcookmyselfandhappytocook

dinner,butIdidn'tdarearguewithGrandpa!

GrandpaarrivedatmyapartmentonThanksgivingmorning.Wewatchedabitofthe

ThanksgivingDayParadeonTV,somethingIalwaysenjoyeddoingasachild,andthenventured

outtoCrackerBarrel.Theparkinglotwaspacked.Thankfully,wefoundaspot,andIsqueezed

throughthelargecrowdtoputournamesonthewaitinglist.Whilewewaited,wewentoutside

andsatdownintherockingchairstochat.Ifoundmyselflaughingandtradingstorieswith

Grandpa,andrealizedaftereverychuckleandcreakoftherockingchairthatitwasavery

familiarandcalmingexperience.Asachildonwarmsummerdays,Grandpawouldalwaystake

meouttothefrontporch,andwewouldrockawayinhishomemaderockingchairs,guessing

whichcolorcarwoulddrivebynext.I'dforgottenhowmuchfiinIhadplayingsuchasimple

gamewithhim,andhowmuchIcherishedtheone-on-onetimewithmygrandfather.

Fortunately,weonlywaitedafewminutesbeforeournamewascalled,andwewerefeastins

awayontheThanksgivingspecial.

“Nowsee,,,Grandpalaughedbetweenbites,“thisiseverybitasgoodasanyotherfbod.^^

Inodded,mymouthfull.

“Andthisway,“hecontinued,t4youhavenodishestoclean.Wecanjustgobackandrelax.”

Afterweate,webrowsedthecountrystorefbrabit,andthenGrandpapaidforourlunch.

“Oh,Grandpa,youdidn'thavetodothat!Icanpayfbrus."Ituggedonhisarm.

“Oh,hush:'helaughed."I'vegotit.”

Ithankedhim,andwemadeourwaybacktomyapartment.Wesatdownforawhile,and

talkedabouthowgreatthefoodwasandhowmuchfunwehad.Afteranhourorso,Grandpa

pulledhimselfupandstretched.

“Allright.Comeonwithme!^^heshouted.Ilaughed.AnytimeGrandpatookhisleave,he

alwaysinvitedmealong.

'Tdloveto,butyouknowIhavetogotowork.^^Ismiled.

Hesmiledandchuckled."Oh,Iknow.Youbecarefultonight,okay?^^

Inoddedandwrappedmyarmsaroundhiminatighthug."Thankyousomuchfortoday.^^

“Oh,you'rewelcome.”

"Seriously,thankyou.Itmeansalot."Isqueezedhimjustabittighter.loveyou.^^

“Loveyou,too,"hesaidquietly.Hegavemeatighthugbackandheadedoutfortheevening.

Iheadedofftowork,feelinghappierandmoreupliftedthanIexpected.

Thefollowingyear,Iwasstillatthesamejobandstillhadtoworktheholiday.Notwanting

metobealonethatyeareither,GrandpainvitedmeouttoCrackerBarrelagain.

In2010,Ifoundmyselfanewjobwithinmyfieldofstudy.However,Iwaspullinglong

hoursbecauseIwantedtoprovemyselfacapableemployee,andthepressurewasreallyhighin

thosefirstfewmonths.AlthoughIhadpaidtimeoffaspartofmynewbenefitspackage,Ielected

nottotraveloutoftownwiththerestofthefamily.Grandpadidn'tgooutoftowneither.Instead,

heinvitedmeouttolunchagainthatThanksgiving.

AstheyearspassedandIbuiltacareerpathformyself,Ihadmorethanenoughvacation

timetotakeifIwantedtotraveloutoftown.However,IrealizedthatIhadanewtraditionthat

meanttheworldtome:spendingThanksgivingwithmygrandfather.

Everyyear,wespendThanksgivingatCrackerBarreltogether.Werockintherockingchairs,

swapstories,browsethestore,telleachothersecrets,andDlayfidlyargueaboutwhoisgoingto
