InFebruary2018,thePrimeMinisterofIndialaunchedtheconstructionofNaviMumbaiairportwhichisexpectedtobebuiltatacostofUS$2.58billion.Thefirstphaseoftheairportwillbecompletedbyendof2019.

InSeptember2018,thePrimeMinisterofIndiainauguratedJharsugudaAirportinOdisha.

InSeptember2018,thePrimeMinisterofIndiaalsoinauguratedSikkim’sfirsteverairport,PakyongAirport.ItisAAI’sfirstgreenfieldairportconstruction.

AsofOctober2018,theGovernmentofIndiahasreleasedapolicyonbiometricdigitalprocessingofpassengersatairportscalled‘DigitalYatra’,ThepolicywillensureuniformimplementationandpassengerexperienceacrossIndianairportsthroughaconnectedecosystem.

TheAAIplanstospendUS$1.3billiononnon-metroprojectsoverthe5years(2013–17);mainlyfocusingonthemodernisationandupgradationofairports;NewairportsatItanagar,KohimaandGangtokarealsoplanned.

TheGovernmentofAndhraPradeshistodevelopgreenfieldairportsinsixcities-Nizamabad,Nellore,Kurnool,Ramagundam,TadepalligudemandKothagudemunderthePPPmodel.

Upfrontsubsidyhasbeenproposedthroughwhichnon-metroairportswouldbefundedbyimposing2percentlevyonbothdomesticandinternationalairfares.

About22airportstogetconnectedunderregionalconnectivityschemeofAAI.

TheGOIhasallowed100percentFDIunderautomaticrouteforgreenfieldprojects,whereas,74percentFDIisallowedunderautomaticrouteforbrownfieldprojects.
