beassimilatedbackintotheenvironment.Granted,somecommunitiesare

moreradicalthanothers—livingentirelyoffthegridandeschewingtheuseof

government:—printedmoney—butthebasicprinciplesaresimilar.

Designingtheneighborhoodtoencouragewalkingorbicyclingisoneway

sustainablecommunitiesputthesefirsttwoprinciplesintopractice.Less

drivingmeanslessgasandemissions.Manyecovillagesalsoincorporate

workspaceintohomesorencouragetelecommuting.Theyalsomightzone
