Keller
was
an
American
educator,
advocate
fortheblindand
deafandco-founder
of
the
ACLU.
Strickenbyanillnessattheage
of
2,Kellerwas
leftblind
and
deaf.
Beginning
in
1887,Keller’steacher,
Anne
Sullivan,
helped
hermaketremendousprogresswith
her
ability
tocommunicate,andKeller
went
on
to
college,
graduating
in
1904.
During
her
lifetime,
she
received
many
honors
in
recognition
ofher
accomplishments.Whowas
Helen
Keller?On
March
3,
1887,
Sullivan
went
to
Keller’s
home
inAlabama
and
immediately
went
to
work.
She
began
by
teaching
six-year-old
Keller
finger
spelling,
startingwiththe
word
“doll,”tohelp
Keller
understand
the
gift
ofa
dollshehadbroughtalong.
Keller
worked
with
herteacherAnne
Sullivan
for
49years,
from
1887until
Sullivan’s
death
in
