findasolutiontocurediabetesbyidentifyingadrugthatcouldmakehumanbetacellsregenerate.In2015,Mount
Sinairesearchersdiscoveredthefirstsuchdrug,calledharmine.Harmineisamemberofaclassofdrugscalled
DYRK1Ainhibitors(抑制剂).Finally,inJuly2024,theyshowedthatharminealoneincreaseshumanbetacell
massby300percent,andifaGLP-1RAisadded,by700percent.
Akeyquestionhasbeenhowharminecausesbetacellstoregenerate.Intheneweststudy,theresearchteam
reportsthatthenew,regeneratedbetacellsmaybecomingfromanunexpectedsource:asecondpancreaticcell
