Thispastyear,artificialintelligence(AI)entered

themainstream,showingpeoplearoundtheworldhowitcanserveasanenginefortransformation

acrossmanyfields.AsmorepeopleuseAI,public

attitudestowardsthetechnologycontinuetochange.Google’sandIpsos’secondstudyonglobalpublicperceptionsofAI—covering21,000interviews

across21countries—showsasignificantpositiveshiftinpeople’sthoughtsaboutthetechnology.

Since

lastyear

,increasedusageofAIdrovegreaterexcitementabouttheopportunityAIpresents

andAI’sabilitytopowereconomicgrowth.These

positiveshiftsareaccompaniedbyabeliefthatAI

willbenefitsocietyandindividuals,drivemeaningfuladvancementsinscienceandmedicine,andallowpeopletobemorestrategicwithhowtheyspend

theirtimebothpersonallyandprofessionally.

Lastyear,2024,wasapivotalyearforthetechnology.AIpoweredupdatedmodels,sparkedthecreationof

newcompaniesandproducts,andshowedupmore

inourdailylives—fromimprovingfloodforecasting

tofinishingsentencesinemaildraftstohelpinglocal

governmentsfixpotholes.AndAIresearchersjoined

theranksofCurieandEinsteinbybeingawardedNobelPrizesinchemistryandphysics.Still,wecontinueto

justscratchthesurfaceofAI’sfullpotential.

Whileanynewtechnologyinvolvesuncertainty,asmorepeopleseeandexperienceAIforthemselves,appetiteforAI(responsiblydevelopedanddeployed)hasincreasedwhileconcernsaboutthetechnologyhavedecreased.Insteadofadvisingleadersto

proceedwithcaution,theglobalpublicnowwantstoseegovernmentandAIcompaniesworkingtogethertoleverageAI’sbenefitsandsupportAIinnovation.

whenitcomestoAI.WhenpeopleuseAI,excitementaboutwhatthetechnologycandooutweighs

andassuagesconcerns.Wehaveseenthisshift

proveitselfagainthisyear:excitementaboutAI’spotential(57%)nowoutweighsconcernsabouttherisksofdeployingAI(43%),upfrom50%/50%lastyear.AI’spotentialtopowersocietaladvancesforgoodtipsthebalanceevenfurtherinfavorof

excitement:lookingspecificallyatAI’sabilitytoadvancescience,medicine,andotherfieldsusingAI,excitementoutweighsconcernsbynearlya

twotoonemargin(66%excited/34%concerned).

Thisishighestinemergingmarkets,where77%ofrespondentsaremoreexcitedthanconcerned.

economyandworkforcehasincreased.MorepeoplenowbelieveAIwillchangetheeconomyinapositiveway(from42%to49%),andmorepeoplewhobelieveAIwillchangejobsandindustriesinthenextfive

yearsbelievethatchangewillbeagoodthing(from52%to58%).3WorkforcedisruptionasaresultofAIisalsoexpectedtobelower:amongthe53%ofthepublicwhobelievetheywillbeimpactedbyAI,

beingmoreproductive,butforoperatingatahigher,morestrategiclevel.Thepublicprioritizesusing

AItohelppeopleusecomplexdataorsystems(84%important)andpromotebusinessproblemsolving(82%)asthemostimportantAIworkforceapplications.Encouragingly,acrossdemographicgroups,morepeoplebelieveAIwillfreeup

workers’timesotheycanfocusonthemost

rewardingaspectsofwork(57%)thanfeelAIwillincreasedemandsonworkerstodomorewithless(43%).

Threequarters(74%)ofAIuserssaytheyuseAIforwork.Thisgrouptendstoskewslightlyyoungerandmoreaffluentoverall—46%ofworkplaceAIusersareunder35and60%arehigherincome.Despitetheseskews,AIisn’tjustbeingusedbydeskworkers

andGenZ:workusersareblue-collar(67%ofblue-

collarAIusersuseAIforwork)aswellaswhite-collar(77%)andolder(68%aged50-74)aswellasyoungerworkers.Notably,just41%ofworkplaceAIusersarefemale,suggestingthatthegendergapinAIusage(45%ofAIusersarefemaleand55%aremale)isevenmorepronouncedintheworkforce.

thepublic(61%,upfrom57%lastyear).4ThepublicalsoexpectsgovernmentandtechnologycompaniestocollaboratetoleverageAI’sbenefits,with72%oftheglobalpublicsupportingAIcompanieshelping

governmentslearnaboutAIand70%supportingAIcompaniesworkingwiththeirgovernmenttotestAItoolsforgovernmentservices.PeoplealsoprioritizegovernmentinvestmentinAIinfrastructure,with

sevenin10(70%)supportinggovernmentinvestmentinhigh-speedinternetandelectricalgenerationto

supportAI.

Generally,thepublicfeeltheircountryis

appropriatelyseizingthemomentwhenitcomestoAI.Acrossregions,majoritiesofthepublicbelieve

theircountryisdoingenoughtoensuretheir

economycanbenefitfromAI.However,asignificantproportionofthepublicinsomeregionsbelievetheircountryisputtinglimitationsonAIthatwillpreventtheireconomyfrombenefitingfromthetechnology.
