SomeofHEVareequippedwithahigh-capacitybatterypackandcanberechargeddirectlyfromhouseholdelectricityorachargingpileinpublicplacebypluggingintoanelectricoutlet.Wecallitplug-inhybridelectricvehicle(PHEV).Asanall-electricvehicle,PHEVcanrunonbatterypowerwithouttailpipeemissions.Asahybridvehicle,PHEValsocanusetheengineandtheelectricmotortoworktogetherforalongtrip,seeFigure1-17(d).Unit1IntroductiontoCarsPassageBTypesofElectricVehicles
