●LearnanImpactRegularizer:Analternative,moreflexibleapproachistolearn(ratherthandefine)ageneralizedimpactregularizerviatrainingovermanytasks.Thiswouldbeaninstanceoftransferlearning.Ofcourse,wecouldattempttojustapplytransferlearningdirectlytothetasksthemselvesinsteadofworryingaboutsideeffects,butthepointisthatsideeffectsmaybemoresimilaracrosstasksthanthemaingoalis.Forinstance,bothapaintingrobotandacleaningrobotprobablywanttoavoidknockingoverfurniture,andevensomethingverydifferent,likeafactorycontrolrobot,willlikelywanttoavoidknockingoververysimilarobjects.Separatingthesideeffectcomponentfromthetaskcomponent,bytrainingthemwithseparateparameters,mightsubstantiallyspeedtransferlearningincaseswhereitmakessensetoretainonecomponentbutnottheother.Thiswouldbesimilartomodel-basedRLapproachesthatattempttotransferalearneddynamicsmodelbutnotthevalue-function|155,thenoveltybeingtheisolationofsideeffectsratherthanstatedynamicsasthetransferrablecomponent.Asanaddedadvantage,regularizersthatwereknownorcertifiedtoproducesafebehaviorononetaskmightbeeasiertoestablishassafeonothertasks.
