6、rge Bernard Shaw (18561950), an Irish playwright who moved to London, was a witty, provocative and prolific writer. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1925.,His most popular play, Pygmalion (19121913), based on the Greek mythology, is a comedy which attacked conventional ideas about so

7、cial class: The story is about a girl, Eliza, with a Cockney accent, whom Professor Higgins, a phonetician, bets he can pass off as a lady in society if he can teach her to change her accent.,The play Pygmalion premiered in 1913, in a German translation. It opened in London April 11, 1914.,The play

8、is further adapted to a romantic 1956 musical, My Fair Lady and two films, Pygmalion in 1938 and My Fair Lady in 1964.,In Hartford, Hereford and Hampshire, hurricanes hardly happen.
