Among those modules, history is regarded as a crucial one since it is a course to know comprehensively about a nations culture and traditions. Accordingly, there is a certain percentage of individuals who consider that all universities students are required to take history course. Personally, in spite of its importance, not all students should be forced to participate in such a module. First and foremost, the main purpose for universities is to enhance students various skills and capabilities which can be used in their future employment. It can be universally acknowledged that university plays a role of preparing students sufficiently for future jobs. What is more, the employment rate of a university is also a factor deciding its overall strength in QS, USNEWS and other relevant rankings. From the top 100 lists including Harvard University, Oxford University and Cambridge University, their employers job satisfaction would be addressed, and according to the human resource managers in many transactional firms such as Unilever, Google and KPMG, students teamwork, leadership, time management and communication skills are regarded as the most significant factors when selecting new employees. Obviously, merely studying history cannot assist a lot in cultivating students practical skills for future use. In addition, learning irrelevant subjects would be a waste for those who attempt to specialize in one major. It can be clearly demonstrated that it is the students responsibilities to concentrate on their majors due to their further considerations like master or PHD program, rather than the irrelevant subjects. It would cost much of their time and energy which should be spent in their major. For instance, a student whose major is accounting and finance should pay sufficient attention on financial statement such as balance sheet, profit and loss, cash flow. History courses obviously have no related contents, and it would be fairly difficult to match these two different modules together. Admittedly, history course is a good approach to understand a countrys culture and significant events. Through this subject, university students can get a better understanding of their nations economic and technological development, governments and policies as well as the relationship with the rest of the world. However, it is not necessary for all students to learn history because many of them may have no interest on this module. What is more, history can be learnt from many other ways such as watching relevant television programs, chatting with the older generations and searching information from websites. To sum up, history course should be optional for university students. There are two factors mentioned above leading to such a conclusion. To begin with, universities should focus more on cultivating students abilities in response to future job. Moreover, it would be a waste of time and energy for those who aim to look into other research and have no inter
