I seek friends whose qualities illuminate (照亮) me and train me up for love. It is for these people that I reserve the glowing hours, too good not to share.When I was in the eighth grade, I had a friend. We were shy and “too serious” about our studies when it was becoming fashionable with our classmates to learn acceptable social behaviors. We said little at school, but she would come to my house and we would sit down with pencils and paper, and one of us would say, “Lets start with a train whistle today.” We would sit quietly together and write separate poems or stories that grew out of a train whistle. Then we would read them aloud. At the end of that school year, we, too, were changing into social creatures and the stories and poems stopped.When I lived for a time in London, I had a friend. He was in despair and I was in despair. But our friendship was based on the idea in each of us that we would be sorry later if we did not explore this great city because we had felt bad at the time. We met every Sunday for five weeks and found many excellent things. We walked until our despairs disappeared and then we parted. We_gave_London_to_each_other.For almost four years I have had a remarkable friend whose imagination illuminates mine. We write long letters in which we often discover our strangest selves. Each of us appears, some times in a funny way, in the others dreams. She and I agree that, at certain times, we seem to be parts of the same mind. In my most interesting moments, I often think, “Yes, I must tell.” We have never met.It is such comforting companions I wish to keep. One bright hour with their kind is worth more to me than the lifetime services of psychologist, who will only fill up the healing silence necessary to those darkest moments in which I would rather be my own best friend.1In the eighth grade, what the author did before developing proper social behavior was to_.Abecome serious about her studyBgo to her friends house regularlyClearn from her classmates at schoolDshare poems and stories with her friend2In Paragraph 3, “We gave London to each other” probably means _.Aour exploration of London was a memorable gift to both of usBwe were unwilling to tear ourselves away from London Cour unpleasant feelings about London disappearedDwe parted with each other in London3According to Paragraph 4, the author and her friend_.Acall each other regularlyBhave similar personalitiesCenjoy writing to each otherDdream of meeting each other.4In the darkest moments, the author would prefer to_.Aseek professional helpBbe left aloneCstay with her best friendDbreak the silence5What is the best title for the passage?AUnforgettable ExperiencesBRemarkable ImaginationCLifelong FriendshipDNoble CompanionsBAmericans are famous for being friendly to people. Their friendships, however, tend to be shorter and more casual than friendships among people from other cultures. It is not uncommon for Americans to have only one close friend during their lifetime, and consider other “friends” to be just social acquaintances (泛泛之交). This attitude probably has something to do with American mobility and the fact that Americans dislike to be dependent on other people. They tend to “compartmentalize”(划分) friendships, having “friends at work” “friends on the softball team” “family friends” and so forth.Because the United States is a highly active society, full of movement and change,people always seem to be on the go. In this highly_charged atmosphere, Americans sometimes seem abrupt(无礼的) or impatient. They want to get to know you as quickly as possible and then move on to something else. Sometimes, they ask you questions that you may feel very personal. No insult is intended; the questions usually grow out of their true interest or curiosity, and their impatience to get to the heart of the matter.And the same goes for you. If you dont understand certain American behavior or you want to know more about them, do not hesitate to ask them questions about themselves. Americans are usually eager to explain all about their country or anything “American” in which you may be interested. They explain so much in fact that you may become tired of listening. It doesnt matter because Americans tend to be uncomfortable with silence during a conversation. They would rather talk about the weather or the latest sports scores, for instance, than deal with silence.On the other hand, dont expect Americans to be knowledgeable about international geography or world affairs, unless those subjects directly involve the United States. Because the United States is geographically distant from many other nations, some Americans tend not to be aware of what goes on in other parts of the world.6According to the passage, Americans attitude towards friendship is_.Ait is unusual to have only one close friendBmore informal than that in other countriesCto regard all friends as only social acquaintancesDto divide friends into several grades7The words “highly charged” (Paragraph 2) most probably mean_.Aextremely expensiveBmuch cheerfulChighly responsibleDfull of mobility and change8What can we learn from the passage?AAmericans know a lot about international affairs.BFriendships among Americans tend to be more formal.CAmericans always seem to be on the move.DAmericans like to cooperate with other people.9It can be inferred from the passage that_.AAmericans want to take part in all kinds of activitiesBcuriosity is the major characteristic of AmericansCAmericans do not know how to deal with silenceDAmericans characters are influenced by their social and geographical environments.翻译句子1没有朋友们的帮助我就不会按时完成任务了。 (without.,would have done )_2我走进卧室时,发现他正在吸烟。(find sb. doing)_3没有被邀请参加这个宴会,我觉得非常伤心。(现在分词作状语)_4我仔细查过抽屉,但是找不到钥匙。(go through)_5我不知道你是否真心诚意地帮助我们。(from the bottom of ones heart)_课时作业(六).1.reunited2.privilege3.mention4.paced5.partner6.couples7.tear8.bottom9murmured10.flee.1.Bregret doing意为“后悔做过某事”,由sad可知答案。2D句意:这两个朋友相互之间的联系越来越密切。keep in touch with意为“保持联系”。3Dbring. to mind使想起;想起,为固定搭配。句意:我似乎想不起那个地方的名字。4A考查term构成的短语。be on good terms with sb.意为“与某人交情好”;in terms of表示“就而言,在方面”;in the long term表示“从长远来看”;on his terms表示“依照他的条件”。根据句意可知A项正确。5Dashamed为形容词,意为“羞愧的,惭愧的”be ashamed of doing sth.意为“因做某事而感到羞愧”。shame为名词,意为“(因做错事感到的)羞愧”。6Cbelong to作谓语动词时,没有被动语态和进行时态。没有belong by这个短语。句意为:永远记住,无论你捡到什么,必须还给它的主人。7Bnot to mention表示“更不用说”,一般用于肯定句之后,后面加名词或v.ing形式;leave alone“不管,不干扰,不干预”;except for“除了”;but for“要不是”。根据句意选B。8Bwithout引导虚拟语气句。根据语境可知与过去事实相反,因此句子用would have done。句意为:孩子的父母感激地说:“要不是这位先生帮助,我们的儿子早就死了。”9C考查动词短语辨析。句意为:村子里的每一个人都喜欢杰克,因为他擅长讲笑话和编笑话。turn up调高(音量);put up举起;张贴;搭建;
