研究业已形成和固化的韵律特征如何影响和制约词语的形态和句法构造。韵律形 态学和韵律句法学的研究在目前虽然比较多，但是把汉英两种语言联系起来进行 的不多。有鉴于此，本文试从韵律形态学和韵律句法学在汉英语言中的表现入手， 进行研究。 在m c c a r t h y p r i n c e 创立的韵律形态学( p r o s o d i cm o r p h o l o g y ) 研究的基础 上，本文指出音节数是制约汉语构词的关键因素之一，汉语双音化是汉语标准韵 律词的内在要求，制约英语形态的重要韵律特征之一是音节重音的位置。在韵律 制约句法方面，本文认为汉英两种语言都遵循核心重音规则( n u c l e a rs t r e s sr u l e ) ( i a b e r m a n ，1 9 7 7 ，e t c ) 和尾重规, o ( t h e p r i n c i p l e o f e n d w e i g h t ) ( 赵元任，1 9 6 9 ； 汤廷池，1 9 8 5 ；q u i r k ，1 9 8 5 ，e t c ) 。对于汉语而言，还要求在句子的核心重音范 域中，动词后不允许有两个或两个以上非轻读的成分，英语则无此限定。 本文最后论述了韵律制约汉英词语形态及句法构造的结论在汉英互译中的 应用。涉及如何使译文词语和句法更加合理和地道等问题。
