h e a w a k e n i n g ) 于1 8 9 9 年发表。然而，觉醒的发表并未给肖邦带来好运。小说因 触犯了当时以男权思想为核心的道德标准，在美国文坛上引起了轩然大波，评论 界纷纷责难，斥责该书为“一个性感的女人甘于堕落的故事”。这部小说被禁止收 入图书馆，肖邦也惨遭封杀。1 9 0 4 年，肖邦的生命在默默无闻中陨落，她的作品 也随之湮没无闻。直到2 0 世纪5 0 年代，评论界才重新认识和评价她的作品，对 肖邦在突破女性小说传统，大胆揭示种族问题，描写美满爱情幻灭后的心灵痛楚 方面所表现出的非凡能力大加赞赏。觉醒被誉为美国文学经典和女权运动的先 驱作品。 本论文在存在主义哲学、叔本华哲学基础上，通过对肖邦作品的研究，对觉 醒中的存在主义成分进行探讨，目的在于能更好地揭示肖邦对女性生存状况的 热切关注：面临的荒谬、异化状态以及为寻找自我、自由而进行的不懈追求。同 时借助于分析觉醒中女主人公的结局、肖邦对女性真正存在的独特理解来揭 示人类存在的终极意义。 本论文共分五章： 第一章回顾肖邦的生平和文学生涯，简要概括对肖邦的评论，并提出本论文 的研究目标及其主要运用的研究方法。 第二章简要介绍存在主义理论，其中包括对存在主义理论的基本观点、存在 主义代表萨特的主要观点以及存在主义对美国文学影响的介绍。存在主义，作为 一种相对于本质主义的哲学思潮，目的就是探索人类的生存状况。它认为人在世 上的经历是荒谬和异化的，并且倡导自由的愿望、选择和个人的责任。萨特认为， “存在先于本质 是存在主义的第一原理，也是存在主义者的共同出发点。 第三章详细地解析觉醒中的存在主义成分，共分三个部分。作品中女主
