荒诞、异化和自由选择 第二十二条军规的存在主义解读 专业：英语语言文学方向：英美文学 硕士研究生：冯霞指导教师：张叉 约瑟夫海勒是美国最重要的黑色幽默作家之一。尽管他一生中完成了六 部小说、三部戏剧、十多部短篇故事以及大量的自传作品，但是人们在谈到他 时，涉及最多的还是他的第一部小说，即他的代表作第二十二条军规。该小 说被誉为美国“六十年代的史诗”，它以看似荒诞的情节和混乱的结构揭露了美 国当时的社会现状。存在主义哲学与文学有着紧密的联系，它的领袖人物萨特、 加缪、波伏瓦等都是才华横溢、大受欢迎的作家。黑色幽默是种重要的文学 形式，存在主义是其哲学基础。第二十二条军规是黑色幽默的代表作，它极 好地诠释了存在主义哲学的部分观点荒诞、异化和自由选择。 文章分为导言、第一章、第二章、第三章和结束语五大部分。 导言简要介绍了约瑟夫海勒的生平、第二十二条军规的主要内容、 评论界对它的评价以及存在主义哲学。尽管近年来不断有人在评论中谈及该小 说的荒诞、异化等主题，但极少有人关注小说自由选择这一话题。本论文不仅 从新的角度论述了小说涉及的荒诞和异化问题，同时还论证了小说中所体现的 存在主义的自由选择观。 第一章荒诞的世界荒诞是存在主义哲学最基本的观点之一，也是第 二十二条军规最显著的主题之一。小说主要通过三个方面向读者展示了一个 荒诞的世界，即统治者的绝对权力、道德上的疯狂以及无法逃避的死亡。统治 者在第二十二条军规所赋予的权力下为所欲为。传统的道德标准在这个疯狂的 世界里遭至t j t 颠覆，米洛是其典型代表。尽管人们从未停止过为生存而斗争的 种种努力，但是，死亡却无法避免。整个小岛都笼罩在死亡的阴影中。 第二章荒诞世界里人的异化异化是存在主义哲学的另一重要观点。 在小说中，无所不在的“第二十二条军规”扭曲了人的灵魂，它所赋予的权力 使得一部分人疯狂野蛮如兽，而另一部分人则软弱无能如虫。谢斯科普夫少尉 是个阅兵迷，为了满足自己的这一怪癖，他不惜将活生生的人变成千篇一律的 “机器人”。卡思卡特上校为了当上将军，不惜以士兵的生命为代价为自己铺垫 晋升的阶梯。众多的小人物在这种制度下丧失了个性，梅杰少校成了从窗户进 出办公室的“幽灵”，丹尼卡医生成了个“活死人”，而作为牧师的塔普曼却对 宗教和上帝有着诸多质疑。 第三章自由选择自由与责任并存。人注定是自由的，有自由选择的 权利。“自由即是选择的自由。”尽管世界是荒诞的，而且荒诞世界里的人都被 异化了，但是第二十二条军规却保存了一丝自由选择的亮色。奥尔大智若 愚，他的行为为约塞连树立了榜样。约塞连一味想保全自己的性命，做了许多 荒唐事。他最终的决定告诉我们，在做出选择的时候，我们不仅要对自己负责， 还必须对他人负责，这正好体现了存在主义的自由选择观。 结束语简要总结了前面三章对第二十二条军规的存在主义解读， 指出荒诞、异化和自由选择等存在主义思想在小说中有着充分的体现。存在主 义哲学是帮助我们更好地理解这部小说的重要工具之一。 关键词：存在主义荒诞异化自由选择 a b s u r d i t y , a l i e n a t i o na n df r e ec h o i c e 一* -
