1. about one-third of the world is land.
分数(百分数)+of +名词做主语时，谓语动词的单复数取决于of后面的名词的数。 但要注意population 一词，用作整体时，谓语动词用单数，用其部分做主语时，谓语动词形式用复数。

2. percent 没有复数 以它所修饰的名词来判断谓语的单复数。例如：
twenty percent of the students agree with you.百分之二十的学生赞同你
thirty percent of time passes.百分之三十的时间过去了。
3. number
① the number of表示“……的数量”，跟复数名词连用作主语时，中心词是number，谓语动词要用单数。例如：
the number of students in our class is50．我们班学生的数量是50人。
the number of pages in this book is 60．这本书有60页。
② a number of表示“许多”，相当于 many，修饰可数名词复数。
作主语时，谓语动词用复数。number前可用large，small等修饰，以表示程度。例如：
a number of students are planting trees on the hill．许多学生在小山上植树。
4. not all land is good for people. 并非所有的陆地都适合人们居住。
be good for 意思是“对......有益”
反义短语是“be bad for”
drinking milk is good for our health.
be good at sth. 擅长做某事
she is good at dancing.
be good to sb. 对某人友好
