average temperatures enough to make 2015the second hottest year on record in the contiguous united states, according to a national report, whichwasreleased thursday. the united nations had previously reported that 2015 was shaping up to be the warmest year on record for the whole planet. last year was also the third wettest on record in the u.s. and saw ten weather- or climate-related disasters that each caused at least $1 billion in damage in the u.s.and killed a total of 155 people.these includea drought, two floods, five severe storms, a wildfire, and a winter storm.theaverage u.s. temperature was 54.4f, 2.4f above the 20thcentury average, and second only to2012s record warmth.this was also the 19th consecutive year with average temperatures above the average for the century.part of this warming was driven by a strong el nio, or periodic warming in the pacific ocean, but some of it can also be attributed to global warming, says meteorologist eric holthaus, who was not involved with the federal report.the analysiscomes less than a month after the u.s. and 194 other countries signed an agreement in paris to more aggressively counter the effectsof climate change.“even if all the initial targets in paris are met, well only be part of the way there when it comes to reducing carbon from the atmosphere,” said president barack obamaat the time. still, the agreement represented “a turning point” by setting up “the architecture for doing so, he said.noaas climate monitoring center doesnt issue predictions for future weather, but the agencys climate prediction center does. that teams forecast for the next three months calls for warmer-than-average temperatures in much of the country, although parts of texas and the southeast may be a little cooler than usual.as lancaster university professor gail whiteman told the weather channel, climate change means extreme weather is the new normal.41. which of the following is the best title?a. extreme weather happens regularlyb. 2015, the hottest yearc. an agreement in paris d. 2015 was a warm, wild year. whats next?42. ten climate-related disasters that happened in the u.s. last year “counter” (paragraph 6) is closest in meaning to _.a. support b. prevent c. analyzed. confuse bwith fuel costs rising and airlines finding more fees to impose on travelers every day, airfare isnt getting any cheaper. luckily, there are plenty of ways to find the most affordable fares and also avoid paying as many extra charges as possible when you plan ahead. fly during the least popular times. tuesday, wednesday and saturday are the slowest days to fly, which means cheaper deals than the rest of the week. you can also find reduced rates on early morning flights, since many people dont like to get up before the sun to get to the airport. earlier boarding times can also considerably cut down your chances of getting bumped on an overbooked flight or delayed because of other delayed flights or mechanical issues.choose your seat later. some airlines charge you to pick your seat when you book online, adding even more to the bottom line of your ticket cost. if you show up early on your travel day, you can still get suitable seats. some of the best seats get held back until flight day, unless others are willing to pay extra for them ahead of time, so you still have the chance at one of those.dont wait until the last-minute to book. many travelers dont know that theres a sweet spot for booking and getting the best price on your tickets. book too early or too late and you could end up paying more than you need to. the best time to book is between three months and six weeks from when you want to travel. fly carry-on only. baggage fees vary wildly, but almost all airlines charge them and charge big. why pay for your clothes to fly with you? if everyone in your travel party checks a bag, your bill can be astronomical before you ever even get to your destination. its easy to reduce the amount of stuff you pack: make sure all your clothing coordinates, so you can take less and still make more outfit combinations, take only two pair of shoes, plan to do a bit of laundry on your trip and bring only travel-sized toiletries.pack your own snacks. unless youre flying internationally, its rare your flight comes with a free meal. snacks on the plane are not cheap and almost never healthy. dont rely on whats on the small menu and instead tuck some of your own snacks granola bars, homemade muffins, fruit and trail mix all make fantastic travel foods into your bag and eat a lot better, and cheaper, than other passengers.46. the main purpose of the passage is to tell the readers _.a. the methods of booking a flight b. the instructions of traveling by planec. the advice of getting cheaper flight tickets d. the rules of paying for flight 47. on which day will you be most likely to book a ideal ticket?a. monday b. tuesdayc. thursday d. tuesday 48. when is the best time to book a flight for the travel on 25th may?a. on 20th may b. on 20th januaryc. on 15th march d. on 1st april 49. which of the following will cost you extra charge?a. choose good seat on the flight dayb. carry on extra baggagec. pack your own snacks d. ask for earlier boarding time 50. according to the passage, which of the following is true?a. travelers today will have to pay more for a flight because of the extra charges.b. early morning flights often cost you more because they have less chances of being delayed.c. planing to do a bit of laundry on your trip is a good way to reduce your baggage. d. the meals offered by your flight are usually expensive but healthy. cthe relationship between exercise and cancer has long puzzled oncologists and exercise physiologists.exercise is strongly associated with lowered risks for many types of cancer. in epidemiological studies, people who regularly exercise generally prove to be much less likely to develop or die from the disease than people who do not. at the same time, exercise involves biological stress, which typically leads to a short-term increase in inflammation(炎症) throughout the body. inflammation can contribute to elevatedrisks for many cancers.now, a new study in mice may offer some clues into the exercise-cancer paradox. it suggests that exercise may change how the immune system deals with cancer by boosting adrenaline(肾上腺素), certain immune cells and other chemicals that, together, can reduce the severity of cancer or fight it off altogether.to try to better understand how exercise can both elevate inflammation and protect the body against cancer, scientists at the university of copenhagen in denmark and other institutions decided to closely examine what happens inside mice at high risk for the disease.the scientists implanted melanoma skin cancer cells into the mice before providing half of them with running wheels in their cages while the other animals remained sedentary. after four weeks, far fewer of the runners had developed full-blown melanoma than the sedentary mice and those that had been diagnosed with the disease showed fewer and smaller damage. in effect, running seemed to have at least partially help the mice fight against the cancer.next, the scientists undertook the far more challenging task of reverse-engineering the process by which exercise might be helping to fight off the tumors. to start, they drew blood from both the exercising and sedentary animals and cells from any tumors in both groups. then they looked microscopically at how the various samples were different.as expected, they found much higher levels of the hormone adrenaline in the blood of the exercising animals, especially right after they had been working out on the wheels but also at other times of the day. the body releases adrenaline in response to almost any type of stressful experience, including exercise.they also found higher levels of interleukin-6(白细胞介素6) in the blood of the runners. this is a substance that is released by working muscles and is believed to both increase and decrease inflammation in the body capriciously, depending on where and how it goes to work.so the scientists repeated their original experiment multiple times, inducing cancer while allowing some mice to run and others to sit. but in some of these follow-up experiments, they injected the runners with a substance that blocked the production of adrenaline and gave sedentary animals large doses of added adrenaline.then they again looked at the animals blood and other cells.what they now saw was that when running mice could not produce adrenaline, they developed cancer at the same rate as the sedentary animals, while the sedentary animals that had been injected with extra adrenaline fought off their tumors better than other sitting mice.more remarkably, by studying the action of various genes within the cells of the mice, the scientists determined that adrenaline seemed to be sending biochemical signals to some of the animals il-6 cells, making them physiologically more alert, so that when a tumor began to develop in the affected animal, those il-6 cells in turn activated the natural killer cells in the bloodstream and actually directed them to the tumors, like minute guide fish.because the runners blood generally contained more adrenaline, more il-6, and more natural killer cells than did the blood of the sedentary mice, this process was intensified. a larger number of natural killer cells were directed to tumors in the runners, allowing their immune systems, it seems, to more effectively combat the malignancy.with these results, “we show that voluntary wheel running in mice can reduce the growth of tumors, and we have identified an exercise-dependent mobilization of natural killer cells as the underlying cause of this protection,” said pernille hojman, a researcher at the university of copenhagen who oversaw the new study.51. “the disease” in paragraph 2 refers to _.a. epidemiological disease b. biological stressc. cancer d. inflammation 52. the word “sedentary” (paragraph 5) can be placed by _.a. imaginary b. inactivec. trapped d. walking 53. what will happen to the body of a running mouse?a. the body will release adrenaline. b. it will increase inflammation in the body.c. it will kill the cells of any tumor d. it will release a substance that strengthen muscles 54. it can be inferred from the experiments in the passage that _. a. exercise makes the levels of the adrenaline in the blood higher.b.inflammation reduces the growth of tumors.c. the runners blood contained more adrenaline, more il-6, but less natural killer cells.d. exercise increases the chances to get cancers because it promotes inflammation.55. in which section of a paper can you probably read the article?a. science b. sports c. health d. economy done day during my elementary school, my mom came to my school. i was so embarrassed. how could she do this to me? i threw her a hateful look and ran out. the next day at school “your mom only has one eye?!” and they taunted me.i wished that my mom would
