专题限时训练(三十一)阅读填空(一)(限时:25分钟)6(一)its easy to see how the sawfish(锯鳐鱼)got its name.these frightful creatures can grow to be more than 6 meters long.their bodies are flat and winged, like underwater airplanes.and their noses are shaped like chainsaws.sawfish are food hunters of the sea.when a sawfish is hungry, it waves its sharptoothed snout (口鼻部) through a group of fish.then, it lifts its nose and uses its mouth to draw the injured victims.hardy (适应力强的) population of sawfish thrived in warm waters along coastlines around the world for thousands of years.over the past 200 years, however, human actions have severely endangered sawfish.threats include fishing nets that trap the huge animals, often by mistake.some people collect sawfishs snouts as prizes: one snout recently sold for nearly $ 1,600 online.in some asian cultures, the toothy snouts are used in ceremonies to drive evil and disease away.and sawfish are also delicious.a growing demand in asia for the fishs fins for a pricey (高价的)soup has contributed to the fishs loves.compared with other fish, sawfish give birth late in life and at slow rates, which makes it hard for them to recover from overfishing.new efforts now aim to restore sawfish population.beginning next month, an international agreement will provide protection for all seven of the worlds sawfish species.scientists are hoping that its not too late to save the sawfish.until 1998, “this fish had never been formally studied in the united states,” says tonya wiley of the mote marine laboratory in sarasota, fla.“we didnt know such basic things as where they live, what habitat they use, how often they breed, how many young they have even what age sawfish are when they begin breeding.”through historical studies and field research, scientists have become aware of how much the fishs numbers have decreased.today, there may be 90 percent fewer sawfish than there used to be.wiley estimates that only 3,000 to 6,000 sawfish remain in us waters.sawfishsizeover 1._appearancebody: 2._ nose: like a chainsaw3._ of hunting for foodattacking fish with 4._drawing the injured victims with its mouth5._ of sawfishs disappearance6._sawfishs snout related to businessits 7._late and slowly which makes it hard to recover from overfishing8._only less than 10% sawfish left 3,000 to 6,000 left in us watersefforts9._restoring sawfish populationmeasure10._for all seven of the worlds sawfish species(二)the term “employment ready” means that a person can master the basic skills which are expected in his or her work.having the right set of educational qualifications is the first thing necessary for employment.yes, it does matter; youll fall behind in the “race”, if you have the right skills but no degree to support it.thats because, its a policy in most companies that a candidate should have the basic degree.so firstly earn a diploma(毕业证书) or degree, even if you have the right knowledge and attitude.this will make your journey to your dream job easy.however, a mere diploma or degree isnt enough, because even if you do land a job, you wouldnt survive it if you lack the basic knowledge concerning your subjects.ambitious candidates should also keep themselves updated with the latest developments in their work field as well as in current affairs.a solid foundation of basic knowledge promotes your confidence, and thus brightens your chances in an interview.your attitude is also quite important for employment.the basic idea behind conducting an interview is about understanding the persons behavior, and his or her thought process.confidence, willingness to work and commit, and the enthusiasm to work are important factors, as far as working is concerned.in addition, most organizations require employees to work in teams.thus you should be able to cooperate successfully with your team members.also you should have good communication and interpersonal skills as an added advantage.finding your dream job in todays challenging market is difficult, but not impossible.so accept the challenge and improve yourself.if you think youre weak in some areas, work on them.there are many institutes that offer motivational courses to help you deal with your weak areas.so, are you ready to take up the challenge? (三)quite simply, school trips are fun and educational journeys that take place outside a students normal environment.a school trip is done mostly for educational reasons.educational kinds of field trips are normally done in a museum or a historical place.educational trips like these are done to help students learn more about their countries and other countries as well.they could provide a better understanding as the students would be able to make a connection between a place, time, or even persons in history and something theyve seen on a field trip.a trip to the zoo could provide a better understanding of animals.biology is even better when there are proper animals to be named.games that include naming animals could provide hours of fun and education.teachers and headmasters are advised to give the students prizes and rewards for different accomplishments done on a field trip.planetariums(天文馆) could help students remember stars better.they could make students visualize(形象化) and remember just how far the sun is from the earth.planetariums could help them see that the earth is just a speck(斑点) in the universe and that there is no reason not to explore.if you are a teacher and youre lucky, you may have taken the next greatest astronaut to the planetarium on a school trip.school trips to farms could help students understand the value of nature and how they affect it.it could help them see that there are so many living things that depend on them and how they take care of nature.children are very easily inspired, and its best to develop in them good character and education.therefore, it is necessary for teachers to often take their students to field trips, where they can have fun learning.benefits of school tripsschool trips are educational 1._ students normal environment.trips to museums or historical places: 2._ of their countries and other countries. enable students to 3._ the history with something seen. 4._: make students understand animals better. make students educated by 5._. 6._ for what theyve accomplished.trips to planetariums: help students remember stars better. make students understand 7._ between the sun and the earth. encourage students to 8._ the universe.trips to farms: make students aware of the value of nature and how it 9._. inspire students to take care of nature.students should often 10._ to field trips for learning.(四)cliques, in simple words, are a group of people who share common interests, hobbies, and friends.not all cliques are bad! however, some cliques consist of a group of people who are mean and snobbish(势利的) and have a set of rules and regulations regarding who should be and should not be.when they think someone can probably threaten their power and identity, theyll bully(欺负) him.in addition, these cliques usually have a leader, who controls the rest.even though he is the popular kid in school, its equally pressurizing for him to maintain that popularity in the school, so he may bully some shy students.if you become a victim of such cliques at school, how can you deal with it? firstly, ignore the group and pretend that they dont exist.in fact, some clique members say that because they get a reaction from the kid, teasing becomes more fun.therefore, its important that the victim just doesnt give out the reaction the clique member
