employed,” he said.“give me your email address and ill send you the application form to fill in,as well as the date when you may start.”the man replied,“but i dont have a computer, neither an email.” “im sorry,” said the hr manager.“if you dont have an email, that means you do not exist.and who doesnt exist cannot have the job.”the man left with no hope at all.he didnt know what to do,with only ten dollars in his pocket.he then decided to go to the supermarket and buy 10 kilograms of tomatoes.he then sold the tomatoes from door to door.in less than two hours,he succeeded to double his capital.he repeated the operation three times, and returned home happily with 60 dollars.the man realized that he could survive in this way,and started to go every day earlier, and returned late.thus, his money doubled or tripled every day.shortly,he bought a cart, then a truck, and then he had his own fleet of delivery vehicles.five years later, the man is one of the biggest food retailers in the us.he started to plan his familys future and decided to have a life insurance.he called an insurance broker and chose a protection plan.when the conversation was concluded the broker asked him his email.the man replied,“i dont have an email.”the broker answered curiously,“you dont have an email, and yet have succeeded to build an empire.can you imagine what you could have been if you had an email?” the man thought for a while and replied,“yes,id be an office boy at microsoft!”60why cant the man have the job at microsoft?abecause he was lazy.bbecause he didnt pass the test.cbecause he didnt have an email.dbecause he didnt have the application form.61according to the passage, which of the following is true?athe man is one of the biggest food retailers in the world.bthe man didnt give up though he failed the interview.che started his career by selling tomatoes in the supermarket.dthose who have emails can work at microsoft.62the man can be described as _.ahelpful and considerate bpositive and generous csmart and hardworking dstubborn and unselfish63which proverb can best describe the story?amisfortune may be an actual blessing. bwhere there is a will, there is a way.caccidents will happen. dno pains,no gains60c根据第四段中微软公司人力资源部经理所说的“if you dont have an email, that means you do not exist.and who doesnt exist cannot have the job.” *结束 阅读理解ms tan, you ve referred to your new novel as your eighth book.thats because it took me six or seven attempts at a second novel before i started and completed this one.why do you think you had so many false starts?i would say that my reasons were wrong: i was trying to prove that i wasnt just a mother-daughter storyteller, or i was trying to prove that i didn t just have to write about things that were strictly chinese or chinese-american. those were never the right reasons for writing those early stories. and i could never come up with other, better reasons for continuing them.what kept you going on this book?this book was different because it was based on my mother s real life. the reason for writing it became more personal and emotional. after the joy luck club came out, my mother was always explaining to people that she wasn t any of the mothers in that book. and at one point she said to me, “next book tells my true story.” and then she started telling me things i never knew before. she also told me many, many stories, because my mother doesn t generalize. the book really grew out of that.have you ever visited china?yes. i ve been there twice: about three years ago and then again last november, both times with my mother and my husband.was it difficult to capture the chinese-american dialect without sounding like a parody(拙劣的模仿)?no, because it s the language i ve heard all my life from my mother. she speaks english as it s direct translation from chinese. but its more than that: her language also has more imagery than english.can you think of an example?somebody might say to me, “dont work so hard. youll kill yourself.” my mother will say to me,“why do you press all your brains out on this page for someone else?” so it s very vivid. that s the way she talks.have many readers told you that the chinese mother in your book reminded them of the typical jewish (有癖好的) mother?many people have told me that. i think the mother-daughter relationship is very intense in both cases. culturally there is an acceptance that mothers have the power to tell their children, especially their daughters, how to conduct their lives not simply up until the time they are 18, but for the rest of their lives. however, when children grow up in a different culture from their parents, they tend to keep more secrets from their parents. the children think, “they just wouldn t understand that i had to do this.” and that can really create a gap, and it can grow as the number of secrets grows.【文章大意概括】这是一篇人物访谈纪实。 1based on the questions in this interview, what do you think ms tan s profession is?a. a journalist. b. a storywriter.c. an interviewer. d. an interviewee.【详解剖析】推理判断题。根据文中的“your new novel,a second novel”等关键词及访谈内容可知,ms tan是一名小说家。 【最佳选项】b2what s true about tan s second book?a. it s about her real life in america.b. the name of the book is the joy luck club.c. it is the result of many times of careful thought.d. it includes many works of her mother.【详解剖析】细节判断题。根据文中的“it took me six or seven attempts at a second novel before i started and completed this one”可知,tan在完成这部书的写作之前曾经历过六、七次尝试,说明这本书是她经过多次深思熟虑的产物。【最佳选项】c3which question is not answered in the interview?a. how does she think of her mother s language?b. how many books does she plan to write?c. when did she visit china?d. how is generation gap created?【详解剖析】细节理解题。“她计划写几本书?”这个问题在文中找不到答案,其他三项文中均有涉及。【最佳选项】b4we can infer that_.a. tan s mother is a good storytellerb. tan plans to write another book about her motherc. tan plans to return to chinad. tan s mother is hard to communicate with because of personality【详解剖析】推理判断题。根据文中的“she also told me many, many stories, because my mother doesnt generalize”和“so its very vivid. thats the way she talks”可知,tan的母亲是一位善于讲故事的人。【最佳选项】a5the last paragraph mainly talks about_.a. how to keep secrets from parentsb. how to deal with the mother-daughter relationshipc. how to conduct the livesd. how the generation gap comes about【详解剖析】段落主旨题。 【最佳选项】d (2012皖南八校第一次联考)nuclear weapons were first developed in the united states during the second world war to be used against germany.however,by the time the first bombs were ready for use,the war with germany had ended and,as a result, the decision was made to use the weapons against japan instead.hiroshima_and_nagasaki_have_suffered_the_consequences_of_the_decision_to_the_present_day.the real reasons why bombs were dropped on two heavily populated cities are not altogether clear.a number of people in 1944 and early 1945 argued that the use of nuclear weapons would be unnecessary, since american intelligence was aware that some of the most powerful and influential people in japan had already realised that the war was lost, and wanted to discuss a japanese surrender(投降)it was also argued that, since japan has few natural resources,a blockade(封锁) by the american navy would force it to surrender within a few weeks, and the use of nuclear weapons would prove unnecessary.if a demonstration of force was required to end the war,a bomb could be dropped over an unpopulated area like a desert,in front of japanese observers,or over an area of low population inside japan, such as a forest.choosing this course of action might decrease the loss of further lives on all sides, while the power of nuclear weapons would still be adequately demonstrated.all of these arguments were turned down, however, and the general agreement was that the quickest way to end the fighting would be to use nuclear weapons against the centres of population inside japan.in fact, two of the more likely reasons why the decision was reached seem quite shocking to us now.64the meaning of the underlined sentence in paragraph 1 is that _.athe two cities were badly damaged after they were bombedbthe two cities suffered because japan would not agree to end the warcthe terrible effects of dropping nuclear weapons on these cities can still be feltdthe end of the war with germany meant hiroshima and nagasaki would suffer65according to paragraph 2,a blockade would have been successful because _.ajapan had to import most of its natural resourcesbit can weaken japans military forcecit would probably destroy japans resources within a few weeksdthe americans could defeat japans navy since it was short of resources66what would probably be discussed in the following paragraphs?athe reasons why japan chose to surrender.bthe writers attitude towards japans surrender.cpeoples different opinions about dropping nuclear weapons onto the cities.danother two probable reasons for dropping nuclear weapons onto the cities.64c画线句子说,直到今天,广岛与长崎仍然在承受着这一决定带来的后果,也就是说,这两个城市的人们依然能感受到二战中美国投放的原子弹带来的后患,因此选c项。 *结束 (2012山东潍坊、东营、淄博、滨州四市联考)“confidence” is probably one of the most noticeable traits(特点) in americans.they show confidence in the way they talk, the way they smile, the way they dress and the way they walk.living and competing with all these confident american students,i find it extremely important to be confident as an international student and a foreign instructor.as a student, being confident means you should never hesitate to raise your hand whenever a question or a point comes to your mind.dont mind if it sounds simple or silly.otherwise you will never get a chance to speak in class at all.whats worse, the professors may think you are not prepared for the discussion or you do not have your own opinion on the issuethis is the last comment any graduate would like to receive.being confident for me as a foreign instructor means calmly asking the student to repeat what he or she has said if i did not get it.pretending to understand what you actually do not may just bring yourself embarrassment or even disgrace.but the time i most need to be confident is when my students come to my office and bargain about the grades i have given for their speeches(the course im teaching here is public speaking)modesty is a trait highly valued in china, but it wont be of much help here if you want to survive and succeed in a good american graduate program.67to compete with american students its very important to _.abe quite confident bbe polite and friendlychave more discussions with them dunderstand what they think about68a professor will have the worst opinion of a student who _.agives a silly or simple answer btries to seize any chance to speak in classcshows no interest in the course dis considered to have no opinion of his own69the author is most likely to feel embarrassed if _.ahe asks a student to repeat what he has said bthe students bargain with himche pretends to know what he doesnt dhe has to give a speech70the passage is mainly developed by _.aproviding examples bmaking comparisonscgiving different figures dtelling personal experiences67a根据第一段第三句“living and competing with all these confident american students,i find it extremely important to be confident.” aa new generation addiction is quickly spreading all over the world.weboholism,a twentieth century disease, affects people from different ages.they surf the net,use email and speak in chat rooms.they spend many hours on the computer, and it becomes a compulsive habit.they cannot stop, and it affects their lives.ten years ago,no one thought that using computers could become compulsive behavior that could affect the social and physical life of computer users.this obsessional behavior has affected teenagers and college students.they are likely to log on computers and spend long hours at different websites.they become hooked on computers and gradually their social and school life is affected by this situation.they spend all free time surfing and dont concentrate on homework,so this addiction influences their grades and success at school.because they can find everything on the websites, they hang out there.moreover, this addiction to websites influences their social life.they spend more time in front of computers than with their friends.the relation with their friends changes.the virtual life becomes more important than their real life.they have a new language that they speak in the chat rooms and it causes cultural changes in society.because of the change in their behavior, they begin to isolate themselves from the society and live with their virtual friends.they share their emotions and feelings with friends who they have never met in their life.although they feel confident on the computer, they are not confident with real live friends they have known all their life.it is a problem for the future.this addictive behavior is beginning to affect all the world.56the authors attitude towards weboholism is that of being_.aoptimistic bdisapproving cpositive dacceptable57whats the main idea of the passage?athe influence of weboholism. bthe advantage of weboholism.cthe popularity of weboholism. dthe cause of weboholism.58what does the underlined word “obsessional” in the second paragraph most probably mean?aattractive. bprofessional. caddictive. dpotential.59we can infer from the passage that_.aweboholism has the greatest effect on teenagersbstudents can hardly balance real and virtual lifecpeople are addicted to games on the internetdvirtual life is more vivid and attractive anyway56b第一段总结网瘾这种现象以及其不良影响,第三、四、五段从不同的方面阐述这种现象对年轻人的不良影响,因此说明作者对网瘾持不赞成的态度。 59b根据倒数第二段第三句“the virtual life becomes more important than their real life.”以及最后一段第一句中的“.they begin to isolate themselves from the society and live with their virtual friends.” *结束 cevery year
