Teaching difficulties: Get important information through listening and tell a story briefly in English Teaching important points: vocabulary, listening and speaking skills practiceTeaching methods: Arouse students interest by some pictures of Chinese old stories, then practice their listening and speaking skills through the listening part and role-play.Teaching Aids: Multimedia, picturesTeaching procedure:1. Warming upDo greetings. Then read the vocabulary in Unit 5 to do a brief revision. Play a game “Whats missing”to attract students interest. Tell students that we are going to learn Unit 6. In this unit, students are intended to tell stories.2. Lead-in Teacher asks: Can you tell any traditional Chinese stories? Then show some pictures about Chinese old stories, such as: Ne Zha, Chang e and Pan Gu.3. New lessonSection A-1aShow the pictures on the screen and let the students say the name of the four stories in English. Guess the meaning of “shoot”. Then let students finish the tasks in 1a.Section A-1bStep 1: Focus attention on the sentences in 1b and predict the answer to the question in the title.Step 2: Play the recording for the first time. Students do the task then check answer.Section A-1c Step 1: Teacher shows the following questions: How does the story begin? What happened next? Where would they put all the earth and stone from the mountains?Step2: Students work in pairs to think about these questions. Then listen again to find the answers in the material.Section A-2aStep 1: Look at the pictures and guess what they are about. play the recording for the first time. Students need to put them in order. Then check answers.Step 2: Students read the 5 sentences in 2b to understand the general meaning. Explain the meanings of the three words: weak, god and remind.Step 3: Listen again and circle the word needed. Then check answers.Section A-2cTeacher shows these questions: What did Yu Gong and his family do after he told his idea? Did people all believe them? What did Yu Gong say? What happened finally?Let students work in pairs and retell the story according to the questions.Then ask two volunteers to do the presentation.Section A-2dStep 1:Teacher says: Yu Gong and his family were doing an impossible task. Finally, the gods helped them. Teacher asks: What do you think of this story? Do you think it is a good way to move the mountains?
