chapter3 troublesthe first period: teaching aims:to teach the ss some new words which are needed in the text. get information by scanning.teaching difficulties:get the ss to master the words. enable the ss to master the format of a diary.teaching focuses:new words, reading skills.teaching procedures:step 1: warming-up1.show the ss a picture of ferry, ask them if they often take a ferry or not.explain there is no river through shenzhen, so we seldom go out by ferry.2.ask the ss another question: “ how many vehicles can you tell?” the answers probably are: bus, bike , plane, ship, train, subway, motobike.and so on.3.review the expression of using the vehicle.ask: “ how do you go to school everyday?” explain the difference between “ by bike” and “ ride a bike.”step 2: presentation1. show the ss a diary on the screen, ask them how many parts are there to make up of a diary.2. teach the components. date, weather and body.a. review the expression of date b. ss may have 30 seconds to think about the sort of weather, list them on the bb.c. ask ss to think about the diary they used to write and tell the person and tense.3. teach the format of a diary.show a letter on the screen, and ask ss to find the difference between a diary and a letter.step 3: practice1. read the title and the introduction on page31. give short answers to these questions. a. what is a diary ? b. what do you think paul wrote about?2. look at the pictures on page31. give short answers to these questions. a. what is the man doing with the bag in picture 1? b. which person is paul? c. which people are arguing ? d. what is pauls father doing in picture 2?3. show another diary on the screen, ask students to find all the mistakes and correct them in 3 minutes.step 4: consolidation:extra reading ask ss to find the time, place , persona, weather, affair in the short diary given.step 5: extra informationpoint out the difference in meaning, pronuncuation and spelling between diary and dairy. ( a dairy is the place on a farm where milk is produced.)step 6: homeworkthe second period:teaching aims:get the ss to understand the diary wellenable the ss to narrate an affair in time sequence.cultivate ss moral of ready to help others for a just causeteaching difficulties:getting students involved in readingthe use of some expressionsteaching focuses:key words , phrases and sentences the comprehension to the letterteaching procedures:step 1: lead-inshow ss some pictures on the screen , ask students to guess what is going to happen . ask 1 student to tell a short story by himself accoring to the pix given. other students listen to the story and find the date, place, persona and the affair.step 2: task-based learning : the details of the story1. play the tape recorder to the students, ask them to read the story with some simple questions below:a. how many personae were there in the story ?b. when did it happen?c. where did it happen?2. divide the class into 4 groups, each group has its own task. give the ss couples of minutes to read the story intensively. after that, they may disscuss and coorperate to complete the tasks given.group a: answer the questions below:a. why did the man argue with the two women tourists?b. why did the man show the bag he took to other people?c. did the man steal something from the woman? what was it?d. why didnt the boys father get aboard?e. was the thief caught?group b: t, f or dk questions:a. it was a rainy day.b. there were a lot of people waiting the ferry.c. the man didnt steal the purse.d. the man went aboard slowly.e. the boys father called the police with his cell phone.f. the boy was proud of his father.group c: put the following sentences into a correct sequence.a. a man was arguing with two tourists.b. the boy and his father hurried to a ice cream shop to call the police.c. the boy was waiting the ferry with his father.d. the thief got caught.e. the women explained why they thought the thief was the man.f. the boy and his father reached the other side of the river.group d: find the answers to these questions in pauls diary. work by yourself or in pairs.
