Unit 10 Ive had this bike for three years.Section A 1a2c福建省厦门第二中学 李喜蓉I. ObjectivesKnowledge and ability objectives: After this lesson, students will be able to 1. demonstrate mastery of the following expressions related to possessions and things around them: (1) Things: scarf, bread maker, toy bear, soft toy; (2) Time: for three years, for more than 10 years, since I was a baby; (3) Others: yard, yard sale, sweet memories, cent. 2. correctly use the present perfect tense to talk about possessions, using “how long” and “for / since” to ask and answer about the length of possession: A: How long have you had that bike over there? B: Ive had it for three years. 3. simply talk about the reasons for keeping or giving away old things: (1) I want to keep this book. Even though Ive already read it twice, its still my favorite book. (2) I want to keep the bear because Ive had it since I was a baby. It has special meaning to me because Grandma gave it to me. (3) This old bread maker of mine can go. Ive had it for more than 10 years. Aunt Taylor bought a new one for me last week. (4) I can give away this sweater and dress, too. They dont fit me anymore. But I want to keep the hat and scarf for ice skating.Affective objectives: On the one hand, students will get to know the special meanings behind the old things and be touched by the memories they bring back. On the other hand, completing the task of “An Action of Love” will foster their consciousness of caring for and helping others.Key points: 1. The expressions related to the possessions and the yard sale. 2. The ability to correctly use the present perfect tense to ask with “how long” and answer with “for / since” about the length of keeping the old things.Possible problems: Students may be confused about action and state, so they may have difficulty understanding that continuous verbs can be used to show continuous action and continuous state, so that they can be used with “for” and “since” in the present perfect tense.II.
