Unit 4 Do it yourself Reading (Period 1)Greetings: Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. Its my great honor to talk about my teaching design here. This is my first time and last time to take part in such a great competition because Im 46 years old . So I cherish this good chance and I hope every rater can give me a better chance . The unit I choose to illustrate is taken from Oxford English book 8 A. I m going to talk about the first period of Reading of Unit 4 “ Do it yourself ”.Part 1 u the environment of teaching1. Analysis of the teaching materialThis unit focuses on the stories of “Andrew and his DIY” ,through talking about the useful information of “Andrew and his DIY” , excite ss to have a strong sense of practice consiciousness and self consiciousness. .2. Analysis of studentsThe students who attend this unit are Grade8 year ss, so its important for them to develop their listening , speaking, reading and writing skills. 3 Three Dimensional Teaching Objectives1) Aims of knowledgea) To enable the ss to understand and speak the new words and expressions, such as: crazy, terrible , make a mistake , not only -but also - ,advise sb to do , attend lessons ,have a power cut and so on b)To learn something about Andrew and his DIY stories . 2) Aims of abilities a)to infer general meaning from pictures ,context and keywords;b) to respond to text by a series of information of “Andrew and his DIY stories”. c)to develop ss abilities of listening, speaking reading and writing.3)Aims of emotion a)To get the students to be aware of practice consciousness and the consciousness of responsibility . .b)To encourage the students to do DIY . 4 Teaching key points and difficult pointsAfter establishing the teaching goals, according to the English syllabus , the key points and difficult points lie on the followings:Key points:To learn something about “Andrew and his DIY stories” and to improve their reading skills.Difficult points:To improve ss abilities of reading comprehension. Part 2u Teaching and learning methods:Ill try my best to encourage ss to take part in the tasks and activitiesI designed in this class. To encourage ss to learn English for using and use it by learning, Ill mainly adopt :“Task-based Language Teaching Approach ,Communicative Approach, Situational Approach Ill also choose Multimedia CAI to aid my lesson. and cooperative learning mode is the learning method.Part 3u Teaching Aids:1) the Multimedia CAI 2)A whiteboard Part 4u Teaching procedures:Step 1 Warming-up and leading-inBrainstorming activityShow a group of pictures and let ss guess the hobbies of my family . Goal:This step aims to arouse ss exciting emotion, and help them undestand the meaning of DIY.Step 2 Pre-reading Show the pictures of “Andrew and his DIY , and present some of the new words and phrases.Goals: This step is to arouse their interest of reading and learn some of the new words naturally and unconsciously.Step 3 While-reading1 Fast reading Read the passage quickly and answer the questions:1. Who is crazy about DIY?2. He is good at DIY, isnt he? Goals: to help ss to get the main idea and train the ability of catching the info. in a general way.2. Careful readingTask1 Watch a cartoon and do true or false questions Goals DIY is a new topic for us students and its a little difficult for them to understand the passage . I let them watch the cartoon first so that they can not only understand the passage more easily but also can make them interested in Andrew and his DIY stories. Task 2 Read Paras 2-4quickly and silently and find out what jobs Andrew did and what problems he caused and teach them how to infer the meaning from the the pictures and the context.Task4 Read Para 5 together , fill in the blanks and learn how to infer the meaning from the pictures ,key words and the context. Goals: These two tasks can help students understand the major content of this passage and develop their reading skills:skimming,scanning by completing tasks. They can have the ability of inferring the meaningskills. Step 3 Post reading 1. Have a competition : Method : Divide students into boy group and girl group .Ask them to try to say more sentences about Andrew . Which group says more sentences , which group is the winner .2 . Discussion What do you think of Andrew and his DIY?Goals : This step can help students understand the whole text better. The form of competition can stimulate the students participation consciousness and competition consciousness. From the discussion, students can improve their responsibility consciousness.Step 4: ExtensionActivity 1: Do a survey and give a report (Group work) Method: Four students a group . Ask students to interview each other . “ Do you like DIY? What can you do ?” Every student can interview at least three students .Then some groups give a report . Goals: This step is to encourage every student to take active part in th activity.It can also increase students interest in learning, active classroom atmosphere.The evaluation can help ss increase their confidence. Activity 2 DIY1. Make a national card for friends .2. Make sandwiches with pieces of bread and hot dogs .Goals : This activity aims to make students do DIY. It will cultivate students practical ability and consciousness of cooperation. Students will be very happy and excited because they can enjoy their DIY sandwiches while making cards.The classroom will reach its climax . Homework : 1. Search more information about DIY on the Internet. 2.TalkaboutyourDIYstories and write them down .Summarize : In whole class , I think students will be very happy because they can learn English for using and use i
