The teaching tips are that students must learn the three street signs: go along, turn right, turn left. And give students practice listening to the target language in conversations. Then practice in listening for specific items in conversations. Its important to let them know the signs and they can listen and say how to get a place from here to there.II. Teaching goal The language goal is that students can ask for and give directions on the street. The purpose of 1a is help Ss use the target language in a different context. The purpose of 1b is that give Ss practice listening to the target language in conversations. The purpose of 1c is practice in listening for specific items in conversations. 1d is that provide speaking practice with the target language. The key point and the difficult point is that according to the listening practice, Ss can know the meaning of the conversations, and find the directions from the map. III. Students analysis Now Ss know a little about directions by learning Section A. They know how to ask and answer the directions. Then they need practice listening the conversations about directions. Firstly, they should know the three important signs: go along, turn right, turn left. IV. Teaching Procedure1a Street Signs Explain that most cities will have street signs to give drivers information, instructions or warnings. Have Ss explain what the street signs on PPT mean.: go along, turn left, turn right.1b Where are the speakers? This part helps Ss practice listening to the target language in conversations. Before 1b, ensure Ss understand where the speakers are located on the map before listening to the recording. Have Ss find and point to the person circled in red.1c Before you listen To give Ss practice in listening for specific items in conversations. Before 1c,have Ss review the map and their answers from 1b, and then try to fill in the blanks. Then play the recording so they can check their answers.1d Got it Before 1d,remind Ss that when they are given instructions they should repeat or confirm directions. Show an example on PPT:A: Is there a supermarket near here?B: Yes, there is. Go along Bridge Street and turn left when you see the library.A: Got it! I go along Bridge Street and turn left when I see the library.Tell Ss that they can ask people to repeat directions or speak more slowly if they didnt understand or cant remember.V. Practice Show Ss some places cards, such as “post office”, “police station”, “hotel” , and tell them the classroom is the street, ask them find the places with the street signs. e.g. A: Excuse me. Is there a hotel around here? B: Yes, there is. Go along Bridge Street and turn left when you see the library. A: B: VI.
