Important point: the usage of “used to be/do” Difficult point: how to use the phrase “used to be/do” in different forms of sentences.Teaching tools: textbook, multi-media, marker, whiteboardTeaching procedures:Step1: Greeting and lead-in1. T:Good morning, everyone. How are you today? (Ss: ) You see today there are so many teachers in our classroom, are you excited or nervous? (Ss: ) If so (If you are nervous), lets do a guessing game to relax, OK?2. Show a photo of a little boy and ask students to describe the person and try to guess who he is. (Clue: The boy is one of your classmates now.)(If students cant guess the name, give them some information.)3. T: Just now, I used some adjectives to describe the person. Can you think of other words to describe people?Step2: Presentation1. Ask students to finish part 1a.a. Ask two or three students to read their words.b. Ask students to read the given words shown on the screen.2. a. Show students a photo of Lily (my niece), which was taken about eleven or ten years ago. Ask students to describe her. b. Show another photo of the same girl. c. Compare the two photos.Show students the usage of “used to”Write down: I used to be/ do. on the blackboard.3. Show another two photos. Ask students to describe and then ask: Did he use to be thin? (Ss :)Did you use to be as heavy as him? (Ss :)Write down: Did you use to be/ do? Yes, I did. / No, I didnt.4. ListeningT: We all have change, so has Bob. Who is Bob?( Show the picture in the book to students and point out Bob.)Play the recording for the first time. Ask students to finish 1b.Listen again and check the answers.Step3: Speaking1. Read the conversation in 1c together.2. Ask students to make conversations about Amy ,Tina and Mario.3. Ask some groups to speak out.Step4: Writing: How to describe a person?1. Show a passage about Lily. Ask students to read it and say how the passage is developed.Paragraph one: PersonalityParagraph two: AppearanceParagraph three: HobbyT: When we write a passage about a person, we can write from the three aspects.2. T: Lily has changed; I have changed, and so have you. Now I will give you four minutes to describe yourselves, at least five sentences. You have to use “used to”. I used to be, but now Im. (Personality)I used to have, but now I have (Appearance)I used to like, but now I like (Hobby)3. Ask some students to read their sentences aloud.Step 5: Emotional education1. T: As time goes by, we all have changed, so have our parents. Ill show you one of my family photos, lets have a look. (Look at the photo and introduce my family members. Pay more attention to how my parents have changed.)3. Watch a short video. Then tell students our parents always love us no matter where we are, no matter what we are like.
