Unit 9 What does he look like?Section A (1a-1c)Part 1 The analysis of teaching materialIt is the first period of this unit. It is a listening and speaking lesson. This lesson mainly talks about peoples appearance, such as peoples height、build、hair and so on. It is very near to their life. The grammar in this unit is still the present tense. Part 2 The analysis of studentsThe students have showed great interest in English. They want to express themselves but they are lack of vocabularies. Most of them dont often use English to communicate with others. Some of them are not active in the class because they are afraid of making mistakes. In order to encourage them to express themselves in front of others, Ill create some real situations for them to practice the key words and structures. Part 3 The teaching aimsKnowledge objects1.Learn to use words about physical appearance correctlyheight、tall、short、heavy、thin、curly、 straight、medium2. Learn to use the expressions correctly:be of medium height/ be short/ tall /heavy/ thinhas long straight hairwear glasses a little late3.Learn how to ask others appearance and how to give the right answers.-What does he look like? -He is short/ tall /heavy/ thin/ of medium height . - He has short hair/long straight hair.-Is he tall or short?-He is short.Ability Objects 1.To develop the students listening and speaking abilities.2.To train the students ability of working in pairs or groups .3.To develop the students ability of communication.Moral ObjectsDont judge the people by their appearance and be friendly to each other.Part 4 Teaching important point1. Learn to use the expressions correctly.2. Learn how to ask about others appearance and how to give the right answers.Part5 Teaching difficult pointsWhen they describe a persons appearance, they should know how to use “be” and “have” correctly.Part6 Teaching methods1.Task-based teaching methods2.The situation teaching method3.Group work and pair work.Objects:To let the students learn in the real situations and finish tasks by listening and making dialogs. That can help students to get a better understanding of the key structures.Part7 Teaching AidsPPT courseware Part 8 Teaching proceduresStep 1 Greeting and lead-in1. Daily greetings.2.Lead-in. To describe one of the students. Have the others guess who he or she is.To guide the Ss to ask using the sentence patterns : What does he or she look like?Object:To lead into the topic of this unit.Step 2 Presentation1. Brainstorming .To show PPT and have the Ss guess the changes of pencil cartoons height and build.To revise the old words and learn the new words. Then show them on the board and read them aloud. Object:To create relaxing atmosphere and arouse students interests.2. To look at the picture in 1a and tell them Amys friend is among them . But different people have different looks . First have them look carefully and finish 1a.3. Listening Practice in 1b. Show them the uncompleted dialog and have them listen with the question.Play the tape first and have them only listen. Then play again and have them try to fill in the blanks.Step 3 PracticeTo describe the persons in 1a.and have other Ss guess who he or she is.To explain the phrase be of medium height and long straight hair. Have the Ss pay attention to the correct order of description adjectives.Object: To encourage them to communicate with others bravely.Step 4 Listening Practice and Group Work.1. To show the alternative questions in 2a and two pictures each for them to choose. Listen and choose the right picture first . Then listen again and answer the questions.2. Show the chart in 2b . Have them discuss in groups first. To talk about which words may be filled after is or have. Walk around and give help.Then listen and check if their ideas are correct. 3. Play the tape twice and fill in the chart . Lead them to mark simply and then write down the completed words or phrases. Communicate in pairs with the key sentence patternsObject :To improve their abilities of listening , speaking and reading and train their abilities of cooperation.Step 5 Consolidation1. To listen to the tape of 2d and underline the new words. Explain the new words in English or with real things. Show the question What does David look like? Have them answer it and help Tony find him. 2. To draw a simple picture and help the Ss understand the conversation correctly.Read the conversation after the tape.Object : To improve the students reading skills.Step7 SummaryTo summarize the key sentences patterns . Emotion education :Its good to have beautiful looks.But some people have shorts of bodies at birth or because of the accidents.So we shouldnt laugh at them but help them . Remember that the beauty of heart is more important for us.Step8 HomeworkWrite a short passage to describe your favorite teacher or the person you know well.
