And theres a good chance that youve also expressed the phrase, I never meant to hurt you. Stop doing that, says author Caroline Myss. In a talk Myss - a spiritual researcher - took on the topic of forgiveness and healing, and explained in no uncertain terms why I never meant to hurt you is never a sufficient apology, no matter who it comes from. Picture that person coming up to you and saying, Wow, Im sorry I did this, but, you know , I never meant to hurt you. And, hey, can we just call it a day? Myss says. Though it can make the two bury the hatchet and keep friendship, that type of apology wont sit well with the person on the receiving end. That whole little thing - I never meant to hurt you - thats the thing you cant forgive, she says. It goes right to your soul, that toxic (有毒的,中毒的 ) , sick feeling.Instead, Myss says its important to approach the conversation differently. Basically, its about offering more than an apology. Its about sharing a soul-to-soul confession (仟悔) . Lets redo the scene, Myss says. The person comes up to you and says. I need to tell you something. I consciously knew what I was doing. I know I went against you. This is not an apology. 1 am confessing my soul to you, and Im asking now for your forgiveness. Even saying those words on stages makes Myss visibly emotional, and she points out that this is how deeply apologies within the soul are supposed to resonate (引起共鸣) . Thats what heals, she says. 21. What does Myss think of the expression I never meant to hurt you? A. It must put the friendship to an end.B. It is a great way to express the apology.C. It doesnt have any effect on restoring the relation. D. It cant express the apology thoroughly and sincerely. 22. What does the underlined phrase bury the hatchet mean?A. end the friendship B. make upC. bury the fighting tool D. accept the apology 23. How should we apologize according to Myss? A. We should confess our faults and ask for forgiveness. B. We should say sincerely I never meant to hurt you. C. We can go into a deep conversation to argue with our friend.D. We are supposed to make up with the other by giving some gifts to him.24. What is the authors purpose of writing the passage? .A. To encourage people to apologize first. B. To tell people how to apologize sincerely.C. To introduce the topic of forgiveness and healing. D. To explain why people cant say I never meant to hurt you.BThough problems are a part of our lives, it certainly doesnt mean that we let them rule our lives forever. One day or the other, youll have to stand up and say problem, I dont want you in my life.Of course, weve been fighting troubles ever since we were born. Problems with friends, parents, girlfriends, husbands, and children the list goes on. Apart from these, the inner conflicts within ourselves work, too. These keep adding to our problems. Problems come in different shapes and colors and feelings. But good news is that all problems can be dealt with. Now read on to know how to solve your problems.Talk, it really helps. What most of us think is that our problem can be understood only by us and that no talking is going to help. But the truth is that when you talk about it, youre setting free the negative energies that have been gathering within you. Talking helps you move on and let go.Write your problems. Having a personal diary can also be of huge help if you dont want a real person to talk with. When you write down your problems, youre setting free all the tension from your system. You can try throwing away the paper on which you wrote your problems. By doing this, imagine yourself throwing away the problems from your life.Dont lose faith and hope. No matter what you lose in life, dont lose faith and hope. Even if you lose all your money, family. you should still have faith. With faith and hope, you can rebuild everything that you lose.Your problems arent the worst. No matter what problem you get in life, therere another one million people whose problems are huger than yours. Tell yourself: when they can deal with them, why cant I? Your problems might just seem big and worse, but in reality they can be removed.Go about and solve your problems because every problem, however big or small, always has a way out.25According to the text, the first paragraph is trying to.A. upset the readersB. please the readersC. laugh at the readersD. encourage the readers26What is the main idea of Paragraph 2?A. Its not hard to guess. The top half of this fish looks like a small horse. But looking at the sea horses tail, you might think “sea monkey” is a better mame. Then theres the sea horses pouch. “Sea kangaroo” might also be a good name for this fish.Sea horses live in warm ocean waters all over the world. They keep safe from other fish by hiding in plants and grasses that grow under the sea. They can also change colors to match their surroundings. A sea horse remains in one place for hours at a time by winding its tail around a plant. It feeds on live food, such as small shrimp. For a fish that doesnt move around much, the sea horse eats a lot - in just one day, a sea horse can eat 3000 shrimp!A sea horse keeps the same mate for its whole life, and its the male sea horse that gives birth to baby sea horse. How does this happen? Baby sea horses start out as eggs, which come from the females body. The male carries the eggs in its pouch for about three weeks until they hatch. Soon after the babies are born, the female gives her mate a new set of eggs.Sadly, the number of sea horses is becoming smaller. Why is this happening? Some places where sea horses once lived have been filled in to make new land. Also, many sea horses are caught and sold as aquarium fish. This really is not a good idea because most sea horses dont live long in aquariums. The best place for a sea horse is the ocean.28. We can learn from the passage that sea horses .A. like to move around B. feed on small sea animalsC. live in cold ocean waters D. change colors with the temperatureDMost young people enjoy some forms of physical activities. It may be walking, cycling or swimming, or in winter, skating or skiing. It may be a game of some kind, football, hockey, golf, or tennis, it may be mountaineering. Those who have a passion for climbing high and difficult mountains are often looked upon with astonishment. Why are men and women willing to suffer cold and hardship, and to take risks on high mountaineering? This astonishment is caused probably by the difference between mountaineering and other forms of activity to which men give their leisure. Mountaineering is a sport and not a game. There are no manmade rules, as there are for such game as golf and football. There are, of course, rules of a different kind, which would be dangerous to ignore, but it is this freedom from manmade rules that makes mountaineering attractive to many people. Those who climb mountains are free to use their own methods. If we compare mountaineering with other more familiar sports, we might think that one big difference is that mountaineering is not a “game”. We would be mistaken in this assumption. There are, it is true, no “matches” between “teams” of climbers, but when climbers are on a rock face linked by a rope on which their lives may depend, there is obviously teamwork. The mountain climber knows that he may have to fight forces that are stronger and more powerful than man. He has to fight the forces of nature. His sport requires high mental and physical capacities. A mountain climber continues to improve in skill year after year. A skier is probably past his prime by the age of thirty, and most international tennis champions are in their early twenties. But it is not unusual for a man of fifty or sixty to climb the highest mountains in the Alps. They may take more time than younger men, but they probably climb with more skill and less wasted effort, and they certainly experience enjoyment.32.
