Teaching plan of Chapter SixPoems about lifeChapter topic: overviewThe topic of this chapter is Poems about life. The Reading section consists of two poems about dull and exciting moments on our lives. The Listening section features a proofreading task of a poem about a typhoon. The Language section focuses on using who and whose to talk about family members and one and ones to replace countable nouns. In the Speaking section, the main task is practicing patterns for making and responding to suggestions. The Writing section contains a guided task in which students must write a poem about their class.Teaching aims and demands:1. Lets appreciate a wonderful poem It is written by W.B. Yeats and read by Dr. J. C. A. Rathmell, an expert on poetry in Cambridge University.The poem talks about the poet comes to the lake and watches the swans and he is thinking about his youth time, he is filled with sadness. How can a visitor find the speakers house?You can hear the noise from ten miles away and the outside is a mess.5). Now you are the speaker in the poem. Look at the picture on page 73 and describe the action of each member of your family in short sentences. Example: My sister is crying.My dad is shouting loudly.My mum is breaking things.The baby is playing.The brother is roaring.My grandpa is slamming the door.The dog is running in rings.6).What is the speaker doing the picture on page 73? He is looking around and watching what the others are doing. He is also scratching his head and smiling.4. D Read and think Compare Never a dull moment with Some days. Try to answer these questions.1). In what ways are the speakers of the poems similar? Both of the speakers are young boys, and both poems are about the mood of the speakers homes.2). In what ways are they different? InSome days, the speaker is very bored and talks about himself only, while in Never a dull moment, the speaker describes a very lively home and family.3). In what ways are the two houses different? The speaker of the first poem does not mention other family members, so we get the feeling that the speaker is lonely and the house is very quiet. The second poems uses a lot of noisy words and all the family members are described. We get the impression that the house is chaotic and busy.4). Listening practice Correcting mistakes in a poemTo correct mistakes when you listen to a poem, you should do the following: Go through the poem and check whether some lines of the poem make sense. Read the poem again and pay attention to the words at the end of each line. Usually, the words at the end of the second line and the fourth line in each verse rhyme with each other. Listen to each line carefully and pick out any wrong words. 1. Review the following new words before the students listen. Typhoon harbour blow waiter Tray hay goodness2. The students will listen to it for three times. The first time: just listen The second time: correct the mistakes The third time: Correct the mistakes that they missed in the second time.3.
