If you are, you are not alone. In fact, close to 50 percent of people are shy. These days, shyness is becoming more and more common. Now, scientists are trying to understand shyness.15 . Is it possible to be born shy? Many scientists say yes. They say 15 to 20 percent of babies behave shyly. Interestingly, these shy babies usually have shy parents. 16 . Family size might cause people to be shy as well. Some scientists found that children who had older brothers or sisters were often bullied (欺侮) by their older brothers and sisters. So they became shy. At the same time, children with no brothers and sisters may also be shy.17 . They are not able to learn the same social skills as children from big families. You may also be shy because of where you were born. When scientists studied shyness in different countries, they found surprising differences. In Japan, most people said they were shy. But in Israel, only one of three people said so. 18 . One scientist says the Japanese and Israelis have different opinions of failure. In Japan, when people do not succeed, they blame ( 责备) themselves for their failure. In Israel, people often blame failure on outside reasons, such as family, teachers, friends, or bad luck. For shy people, it can be difficult to make friends, speak in class, and even get a good job. But scientists say it is possible for you to get over your shyness.19 . And dont forgetif you are shy, you are not the only one. It was raining. It sounds crazy, but these computer-driven driverless cars will soon be filling roads near you. Companies like Google and Tesla have been designing and testing these cars, and the technology is there-they just need to see if theyre value for money ,work out insurance(保险)issues, and run final tests to check they can run alongside human-driven cars on the road. So how do they work? The cars have sensors all around which can detect other cars and obstacles in the road. Sensors on the wheels also help when parking, so the car knows how far it is from the outside of the road or other parked cars. Road signs are read by cameras and satellite navigation systems are used so the car knows how to get to your destination. All you have to do is type in the address! Finally, a central computer system takes in all the information it receives from the sensors and cameras and processes this to work out when to speed up, brake and go.Sound like your idea of heaven? Sitting back, looking out of the windows and even watching a film or reading a book while driving would be possible with this new technology. You wouldnt have to worry about remembering directions to where youre going. In addition, computers are generally more efficient drivers than humans. They would also drive more safely than people-they are not influenced by music or friends, they would obey the speed limit and they have quicker reaction times in case of an emergency. However, there are many disadvantages of driverless cars. Computers would have difficulties making ethical(伦理学的)decisions ; if a child ran into the road , would the computer choose to hit the child or change the direction immediately and potentially kill the cars passengers? Moreover, I personally find driving fun-Id miss never being behind the wheel myself. There would also be many legal decisions to be made-should children, or drunk people, be allowed in a driverless car by themselves? Or would there need to be a responsible adult with a driving licence in the car at all times?Although being driven around by a machine would perhaps mean that no one needs a driving licence, saving money for everyone, many people would be put out of a job when driverless cars appear. Bus, taxi and train drivers as well as driving instructors would be made unnecessary.Im not convinced Id want a driverless car-but its only a matter of time before theyll become more affordable and commonplace on our roads.30 . What does the second paragraph mainly tell us?AHow driverless cars work.BHow a central computer system runs.CWays in which the sensors help driverless cars.DThe helpful system that driverless cars have.31 . What can we know from the passage?AThe writer is eager to have a driverless car.BSome problems wont be solved in the future.CEngineers are active in improving driverless cars.DMore factors should be considered before driverless cars go on roads.32 .
